Junk store score- 804 Carpenter

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Junk store score- 804 Carpenter

Picked this beauty up over the weekend. Tang stamp puts it between 1946-73, but I'm guessing maybe late 50's. Any thoughts on dating this little guy? Either way it's going to be carried a lot.

With that style of delrin handles, I would estimate 1965 to early 70's. I don't know what year the pattern was discontinued by Schrade. but IIRC it was after 1970 and before 1975.

Thanks everybody. I've been carrying it these past few days and I'm smitten. To me a 3 7/8" serpentine jack is just about perfect in the pocket, and I'm really liking the way the master blade is centered in the handle. I've never owned a knife with the springs set up this way but it's a great idea.

That really is an ingenious design. I didn't know that about those knives but I like it. I learned something today. Thanks for posting the picture! The old bone handled ones with the cutouts on the handle for the nail nicks on the small blades are neat too.

I have one that was a factory second, the tang mark is ground off, that I use for an EDC. I love that coping blade for opening up cardboard boxes. Great find. ::tu::

I don't know when Schrade started using Delrin but Dupont® didn't open their Delrin factory until 1960 so it has to be after that. Just guessing late '60s - early '70s. Very nice knife. Congratulations.

Neat find! All I've seen in junk type stores is what looks like used cheap Chinese-made knives. Guess I need to pay more attention!

Haven't checked in in a while, but thanks for all the kind comments as well as Intel on the age of the knife. I sorted through a lot of Chinese junk to find this one, but I'm sure glad I did!

I been packing a Schrade Walden 804 this week myself.
I was going to put it in my store, but I like it so much I think it will be an EDC. ::tu::
