Schrade Walden Diver Knife

One of my rare ebay purchases, just recieved yesterday. A bargain price at that, although the seller didn't seem to realize what he had.

Near Immaculate condition. This has never seen salt or any other kinda water. Never been used. Razor sharp, factory edge, I mean it drags across my thumbnail. I assume the lanyard is factory. Handle is nice and bright, pommel is perfect.

Here is a Schrade company display of the dive knives. A D-guard eludes me, although I once bid (lost) $350 on one. Silly me. Photo supplied by LT.

Only downside of the knife I have is that the sheath is cracked. The plastic material might have been more pliant at one time. Still, I am happy. It's the kinda collectible knife I really like. Uncommon, made as a working knife.

Great find Phil! First one I've seen with a sheath. I'll keep an eye out for that D-guard for ya

Yes, nice find. I only wore a dive knife as a beginner, it's around here some place, Italian made. Along Northern Cailfornia's coast a knife is just pretty useless and high maintenance.

By the time I find these knives on the bottom of the ocean they are just junk and I throw them away. I would guess at least 50% of all dive knives purchased around here ended up at the bottom of the ocean.

I have a couple of sets of these they were popular late 50tys early sixtys. Very big when the show Sea Hunt was on Lloyd Bridges ( father of Beau ). Played Mike Nelson a scuba diver which was the rage as the in vogue hobby. I still remember seeing the giant rubber raft and mannequin ( in full wet suit )as well as all the goodys then state of the art in the middle of the sporting goods section at Sears. Notice they had two different stamps the one with out stainless on the tang has the word stainless on the obverse side. Strangly I always seem to find these in the desert one from Henderson Nev ( near lake mead ) another from Texas the guy had a sporting goods place out in the desert and it had been sitting around for decades ebay came around and he was selling old stock. Another was also a desert story. I do not remember off hand on the forth one. Seems like they were the in thing to wear to wear when taking up the hobby back then. Usually they are new or almost new more like a fad I guess. LT
