Memorial Day Project WW2 225Q Quartermasters knife

I was hoping to get this finished and posted yesterday for Memorial Day but the project took a lot longer than I thought The pics show the knife as I I left it when I went to bed last night. It looks nice in the pics It still needs a lot of finishing work done. I need to take it back apart and buff the brass pieces one at a time. when I got this knife many years ago the leather handles had rotted off and the steel was crusted with rust and pitting. Its come a long ways! I am toying with jigging the handles to improve grip as the handles is quite slick. It still needs finishing as well. I am also toying with the idea of bluing the blade. I think it would add to the charm. The brass pieces are all hand made from the same bar of brass. It took a long time to do as I have never made such pieces before. The entire day was spent making them. Hope you like it! I'll post an update when its done. This one is for all who served. Not just WW2 but all that we have fought! Hope you all a great weekend!

Thanks guys! btrwtr The material is called black paper. I don't know what it is made of but it reminds me phenolic resin. Thank you for the compliment Glennbad! That means a lot coming from you buddy! I cant wait to get back to it. Right now I'm a little under the weather. It may be a day or two.

Looks good Randy.
Is that black paper micarta? It looks like it to me.
If it is paper micarta you should be able to get a really good shine on it.
Sand it to 2000, then 3M polishing paper to 4000 or more and finish it with No Scratch Pink rouge and it will really have a nice deep gloss.

Hey Dale thanks for the info! And yes I think your right about it being black paper micarta. I think I'll polish it up and see if I can get that deep gloss look! Still thinking about jigging that handle. Either way it gonna get polished!

Finally finished this!

I decided to jig the handles and I think it came out good!

I'd thought I add this pic that shows my other Cattaraugus 225Q. In case there some that don't know what they are supposed to look like.
