Switchblade law change proposal In Nevada

Post by roostershooter »

John Ellison is a Nevada legislator who is in favor of a bill to legalize the switchblade and other knives. He calls the devices not weapons, but tools he used a a young rancher.

Slowly knife laws are changing.

Nevada knife collectors owe a lot to Todd Rathner (NRA). He was the expert that held everything together when SB 176 and SB 141 were in committee and another so called expert blew everything up with Bull Shiz.
Here's a link to a video of the hearing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxV0dk7xBzA
The inexplicable testimony of the knife industry representative starts at 9:28, his testimony on Dirks and Daggers begins at 13:39. The testimony of those who exploited the industry representative's testimony in support of not deleting dirks and daggers starts at 34:20 and again at 38:09. The powerful testimony of Knife Rights Director of Legislative Affairs Todd Rathner starts at 49:00.

SB176 repealing the ban on switchblades was signed into law by Governor Sandoval and goes into effect 1 July 2015. ::ds::

Unfortunately, they also removed the preemption language, effectively allowing city and county governments to pass laws restricting switchblades if they choose to do so. This could make it challenging for residents and travelers who cross over county or city lines if one city/county has passed laws restricting them and the other hasn't. ::dang::

While the bill isn't perfect, It's still nice to see legislation that removes restrictions rather than add them.

That chart does show a significant across-the-board decrease in violent crime. Lookiing at the 1990's, I'm wondering what led to the spike in violent crime during that decade. I have my suspicions...

That the chart has a column indicating % of deaths due to firearms while all other weapons omit this calculation makes me wonder if the author's intent was objective.

And I have a Benchmade Mini-Presidio Ultra auto on the way. :D

That chart shows how you can lie through your teeth with statistics!

Compare the numbers of murders between 1980 & 2012.
The percentage of murders with a gun had gone up 62% to 69.4% in 2012!

“Obviously we have a huge problem with guns they are increasingly being used in a greater percentage of the murders. The number of guns used in murders has grown 7.4% from 1980 to 2012.” (Dripping with sarcasm!) ::mdm::

Anti gun groups will love that number, but they fill just leave out the inconvenient truth that the overall murder rate is down over 40% in those same years!

Someone has said, "There are lies, damn lies and statistics.”
Maybe it was the same guy who said, “There are liars, damn liars and politicians.”

I guess politics, statistics & lies all go together! ::shrug::

I did follow Knife Rights testimony at the NV hearings when it was going on.
Pretty strange stuff! All in all I think knife laws are moving in the right direction in most of the country, thanks to Knife Rights and to American Knife & Tool Inst. They have done a lot of the work on this! ::tu::

I just wish the gun rights legislation was progressing as such a fast & positive rate!
