LB 7s .........Three pin and four pin Timeline

I'm interested in finding out the timeline on the three pin and four pin versions of the LB7. I was under the impression that the first ones had four pins and they were later replaced by the ones with three pins. However I've recently added a couple of LB7s to my collection and the most recent addition, a four pin model, has no serial number on the bolster. Am I correct in thinking the LB7s with the serial numbers on the bolster came before the ones without the serial number? Did the four pin model LB7 preceed the three pin model ?

Color me confused.

Just a guess... Those serial numbers were for warranty/loss purposes. What if someone made a loss claim on a serialized Uncle Henry and the company sent that person a new knife.... with no serial number? Just a guess.

I believe that they quit serialization many years before 2004.
