CASE TESTED XX FISHING KNIFE REPAIR QUESTIONS
I GOT A CASE TESTED XX 1920-1940 FISHING KNIFE A WHILE BACK AT AN AUCTION. ITS A FANTASTIC KNIFE BUT IT HAS OUTGASSED. I SENT THE KNIFE INTO CASE FACTORY TO SEE IF THEY WOULD REPAIR IT. THEY SENT IT RIGHT BACK SAYING PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THAT STYLE ANY MORE AND THAT THEY HAD DISCONTINUED IT. ARE THERE ANY IDEAS IF IT CAN STILL BE REPAIRED. IT HAD YELLOW CELULOID HANDLES WITH A HOOK SHARPENER. I BOUGHT IT OUTGASSED HOPING I COULD GET IT REPAIRED. ITS WAY TO NICE OF A KNIFE TO LET GO. STAINLESS WITH A HOOK GETTER AND SCALER. ANY IDEAS WILL BE APPRECIATED. THANKS.

If it were mine I would repair it using another synthetic material other than celluloid. Come to think of it I have 2 of these knives in the shop---waiting.
There is Corian, Acrylic, Corelon, and other yellow materials. There are also some woods that are yellow, yellowheart, lemonwood, and some Osage Orange, just off the top of my head. You could rehandle it just about any material you want, including whatever happens to catch your eye, it doesn't have to be yellow. Good luck!
I'm also experimenting with vaccuum chambers and pressure tanks to dye wood that is dense. If it is around water a lot, stabilized wood comes to mind.

I've got he same knife with the same problem.
Hukk pretty much covered all possibilities.
Since finding authentic looking handles would be hard, why not fancy it up with some nice handles, maybe some filework and have yourself a one of a kind?
