schrade sporting dogs scrimshaw knives

I wonder if anyone can tell me about the schrade limited edition sporting dogs scrimshaw knives. I have the first, second, and third editions to this set. Questions are, how many editions to this set, did schrade make them or were they made by another company, was the scrimshaw stamped or done freehand. If freehand does anyone know the artist? They are awesome knives made in the nineties and i would also like to know if someone would know a value. thanks, Mike.

They were hot-stamped. The artist who did the original was either Georgianni or Duffy (look for tiny initials somewhere in the "scrimshaw." And Schrade made them or had Camillus do some of it. If there is no evident pin through the bolster it was Schrade. Some of their larger knives, such as the folding hunters, did have bolster pins but were made by Schrade. In other words not all Schrades used Swinden construction. I don't know the answer to the other questions.

Hey Tongueriver, I had to look. You were correct, the artist is Duffy on all three. The bolsters have pins, but they are large locking folding hunters. I would have to agree with you, more than likely Schrade. Mike.

The first in the series is the labrador retriever, ser.# 1304. The second is the english pointer, ser.#455. The third is the golden retriever ser.# 55. I have no idea how many of each set were produced, nor do i know how many were in this series. Mike.

Mike - I can see why you like those! Beautiful knives, and very well photographed, too. I have always liked scrimmed knives, and I do not have a single one. Maybe that will be my next Ebay quest.

Are the handles on these Delrin or Micarta ?
The President series which also has color etches have Micarta handles but the handle color is more yellow than the cream color of the material on these Sporting Dogs.

Joe, those were all done in delrin. I believe the only knives done in the light micarta were the Presidents' Set and a funky 51OT with two deer on it.

The funky deer 51 was (I believe) made up from excess material (end of days). There were also some that had not been 'scrimmed' at all. The sparring deer was a design that was legitimately used earlier on one of the scrim versions of the 125OT, with the linerlock. I have one of each of these 51s, with the deer and a blank one. The blank one has the etch of President Jackson (I think). These were all made up parts bin knives (I think). Also, there were some threads that asserted that the funky deer 51 was issued with 98 pieces. Subsequently I have seen enough of them on the internet to suggest that there were quite a few more.
