TWO POCKET KNIVES

Post by Quick Steel »

The yellow composite handle is on the Farmer's knife by Kissing Crane. Just arrived today. Like previous KCs the blade is sharp and tight.
The red handled Farmer is by Carl Schlieper which was produced in Solingen. Sharp & tight blade like the KC, really nothing to choose between the two of them as users except price.

I would say the KC was made in China.

I've had a couple German Eye pocketknives over the years. I think their blades are tempered pretty hard; don't put any twisting force on the blade. They get wicket sharp on my carborundum stone. I carried a GE baby canoe with a broken pen blade but good main blade for years when I worked in an office. Paid less than $10 for it on internet auction site.

Carl Schlieper are made by Friedrich Olbertz in Solingen. So are a few other brands we know and love.

Traditional style folding knives made in China for the last 5-10 years have mostly been of excellent quality in all regards. Note i said "mostly". Some of the China made knives are still of low quality. K.C., Rough Rider, Steel Warrior ans many other brands are every bit as good as many of the German or USA made brands.
Because the price of the China knives is so low it has been hard to accept that they can be anything other than 'junk'. If you still have doubts spend no more than $20 and get one of the 3 brands i mentioned. You will be very pleased.
The main difference between the 'good' China knives and German ofd USA made knives, in addition to price is quality control. I have a great many China made knives ans not even one has even a hint of blade play.
