C-Tek handles...yes or no?

Thoughts on C-Tek? At first I didn't like em and heard the resin can come loose from the cells that are cut through. But this Herman crafted knife has me thinking otherwise.

I think ctek looks pretty cool, though I wouldn't want it on everything.

I've never handled C-Tek in person, so I can't speak to the quality. But I do think it looks really cool, especially on tactical folders.

Doing research before buying is for the best. At one point I wanted to get a knife with lightning strike carbon fiber scales, but then I read about how the wire in the carbon fiber starts to come out and creates burrs that prick your fingers and palms. Apparently you have to sand and buff the scales regularly to keep them smooth enough to hold. If C-Tek has a similar issue I'd probably pass on it.

That was another concern I have with em. As an EDC would the honey comb structure come through when the resin wears down and start cutting your skin.

C-tek has been in the works since 1995. The honeycomb structure is aluminum and is available with 1/16", 1/8" and 1/4" cells. Herman hasn't had any problem with the resin chipping from the cells when cutting or buffing it. That's not to say that it couldn't happen if you were using it for rough work. I doubt there would be a problem with the aluminum cutting your hand with the smaller cells. The resin is pretty tough stuff and I doubt that it chips very easily. I'd think that CCI, the makers of C-Tek, would have the kinks worked out after 21 years.

If you run your finger nail along the handle you can kinda feel the grid.. It is not sharp just there.. It adds to the grippyness but not in an uncomfortable way.. John

Has anyone worked with C-Tek scale material lately? Is it toxic like Micarta requiring a respirator and other precautions?
