KA-BAR Folding Hunter Question
Saw this KA-BAR folder on an auction site. If you look at the front handle it looks like the handle was modified, notched or lowered to accomadate the nail pull. Is this factory original? I don't believe I seen it before. Any information on it will be appreciated!

Re: KA-BAR Folding Hunter Question
slingblade, I have only owned 2 of these and neither one had the "easy open notch". It also looks like some sanding marks on the notch where who ever did the modification didn't finish it up. I'm not an expert on Ka-Bars however. Nice looking knife. Terry

Re: KA-BAR Folding Hunter Question
Fellers,
My old Queen #39 folding hunter has a small easy open notch because the secondary blade point was standing proud. It was 2nd hand when I traded for it many years ago and I use it every deer season. It was a quick easy fix and I got the approval of some of our experts here on AAPK to make the notch several years ago. Filed the kick, cut the notch to expose the nail nick and kept on truckin'! I would bet that is what's going on with the Kabar Slingblade posted.

Try this: go up to the "Stores" section right here on this site. Click on the store that says "Dobbinsville NC USA". Look at the photos of his Dogs Head Folding Hunters and compare them with the one in your picture.
That should give you an idea of how they should look.

Knife frame has been modified.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Re: KA-BAR Folding Hunter Question
Isn't that one of the Canal Street Ka-bars?
Not sure I'd ever do that kind of mod to that frame, seems sacrilegious. Is there any chance they offered a factory option for the EO and that's how it was done? It surely does look natural, even if a little bit different from most every other EO notch...
