Are you saying that you make a post and verify that it is actually on the thread, and then it disappears?

Sometimes when I make a post if my network glitches at the same time that I hit Submit then my post does not actually make it to AAPK. I have had some very annoying episodes where a long post vanishes before it makes it to AAPK, but once I see my post actually on the thread none of mine have vanished.

A few times I have hit "submit" and nothing happened. I always assumed it was because someone else sent one at the same time. A couple of times the post showed up eventually, but not after the post I was responding to. The other times It didn't show up at all.

In the past I sometimes lost a post because after hitting submit I moved on too quickly. I learned to be patient, watch the little circle go round and round until it was definitely posted. No more problem.

I just checked the moderator logs for the last two days, none of your posts have been deleted according to the moderator log.
The moderator log records any post that is deleted whether it's deleted by the original poster, in this case you, or by a moderator or administrator.
The logs do not show that any posts have been entered and then delete it.
If it made it here and posted, it has not been deleted. What the system cannot tell me are posts that were lost by transmission errors, from your computer to the AAPK server, or by a miscue or typo from your PC.

That's all I can find here, or in this case not find.

One aspect of AAPK that i most appreciate is that it does not appear to be moderated. The fact that it is means that the mods work unobtrusively in the background and this allows for a natural flow of the threads. Contrast this to the other well known knife forum in which the moderators behave as sh** disturbing in your face narcissists and the site owner does not care a wit. As you might surmise from my rather pointed comments, i have the honor of being "Banned Forever" from that site for the offense of confronting a mod about his abusive behaviour towards others.
My question here is: how often do the AAPK mods find it necessary to remove a post ? And, how is this done ? Is the poster contacted and asked to remove it first ? And then if no response, mods delete offending post ?

First of all, I have to credit the members of AAPK and their incredibly polite attitudes and behavior for keeping down the need for a large staff of moderators and administrators. I sincerely mean this, all of you AAPK members out there deserve a round of applause because your incredibly civil behavior makes it possible to run a site as large as this with the minimum of moderation.

We currently have over 13,000 members of AAPK we have four active administrators who handle most all of these issues. Those for include Bryan and I don’t think he actually handles posting issues unless it is a big deal and the other three administrators are not available. Besides Bryan we have Phil (philco), Dimitri, (Miller Bro`s) and myself (orvet). Don’t know that we have any other active administrators or moderators at this point in time, so with three of us doing most of the moderating of the forums that leaves one person per 4500 people or so. I don’t think we need more moderators or administrators at this point in time, simply because of the civil nature of our members.

As regards the removal of posts: by far the most common post that I personally remove is a double post. Double post frequently happened to me when I am posting from my phone, and I expect that’s probably true for everyone else. Sometimes the phones lag and I think whoops it didn’t take and I hit enter again and get a double post.

I don't remember the last time I had to remove a post for content, or edit a post for content but I think it’s been within the last three months. Oh, I recall now, last month I removed three posts and banned a spammer who it actually snuck in some time ago and hadn’t posted until recently. This member was actually a business, selling cutlery who decided they wanted to advertise free on AAPK. Since AAPK is supported by the AAPK stores this is not okay! Our members can advertise in the advertising forum, but I don’t think it’s ethical for a business to use us as a free source of advertising without putting in an AAPK store.
Did I notify the person? Yes I did, I banned them, deleted their posts and sent them a message telling them why.

Do I typically notify a member when I modify or delete a post?
That usually depends on the nature of the post. If it is an error oftentimes I correct their error and don’t say anything, especially in the case of a double post. The second most common deletion of the post is one where the OP requests that a moderator/administrator delete their post. They do that by clicking on the exclamation point (!) in the upper right of their post.

There are of course times when a member kind of flies off the handle for whatever reason and it administrator has to address the situation. Speaking for myself, if I know the person I may send them a PM and ask them what the problem is? Oftentimes that’s all it takes to calm the waters. When it is a confrontation between two members I may send both of them a PM and see how we can resolve the situation. It is rare, though not unknown that an administrator has to ban one or both members because of a disagreement. Personally I see that as a fail and it’s something I do only as a last resort.
Aside from the business I banned for advertising last month I don’t recall the last time I had to ban a member for misbehaving in the forums. It has probably happened within the last two or three years, I just don’t remember who it was or the circumstances that led up to the banning.

Seriously, the credit for the civility and friendliness of AAPK really goes to our members!

I think it is because of the professional manner that you, Phil, and Dimitri handle things that makes it a great forum. I think the members know that you guys won't tolerate any bad behavior and act accordingly.
I think you guys have a ton of respect and my hat is off to all three of you along with Bryan of course.

There is a great deal of mutual respect here. A deserving thanks to everyone for being Gentleman or Ladys for Which ever fits. I have to submit a reply twice sometimes and on occasion three times if I am submitting at the same time another member is submitting. I have gotten used to this and haven't been double posting as much as I did in the past. In the past I would submit and it wouldn't go through I wasn't watching close enough and would loose my text. This doesn't happen as often now. I guess I am learning how all this works.

I found my pictures, they have been transferred over to recent conversation topics and Q&A topics. Or general knife forums. I really like AAPK, very good information, hope I didn,t do something wrong.

Sounds like you just got confused on the path to a particular forum? No worries, glad to see hear everything worked out for you.

Aside from the links on the home page, when you're reading any forum post or listing you can click "Knife Forum" at the top of the page, next to "Home" and underneath "Quick Links", etc. This will bring you to a page that shows all the subforums and how they might be nested under categories on AAPK. That way, you can see how forums for a particular purpose are organized and easily find them when you need them.

Hey GUYS, I too MUST give credit to ALL that Run this Site,,,TRUE Gentleman of the Highest Order and I truly mean this,,,AAPK is the MOST USER FRIENDLY & Non Biased of any Knife site that I have ever used. I will do MY VERY BEST in HELPING this site continue also. It seems that I learn something NEW everyday. I have been a supporter of AAPK for MANY Years though I just recently wanted to "Be involved" MORE!!!

Here are a couple things that as a Long time member that I didnt know about this Site UNTIL this posting. Thank you Dale for the Explanation for us SLOW LEARNERS!!!

First and Foremost is that what keeps this site Running is the "Sales" generated from the "Stores". I enjoy the Advertisement section also and more so at this time,,,but If I dont know((How many others dont know??)). It never occurred to me that I wasnt paying my share to Mr. Bryan for allowing me to sell knives in the advertisement section. I am NOT Sure How I can accommodate Mr. Bryan for the Knives I sell from the advertisement section but I DO WANT to contribute the Same costs that it would be if I put the knife in my store,,This is only Fair and is the Least that I can do on my part. Does this make sense?? LOL

2nd, Is that I learned this month that its an "Unwritten Rule" to advertise in the Forums which I had NO IDEA that it was but I can surely understand NOW why its not a good idea to do that because if one person does it,,then thousands do it and then it would end up overtaking the MORE IMPORTANT HISTORICAL factor of sharing Variations of our beloved knives. I believe I got it now, LOL.

May I Also suggest a "New Thread" for Donations(This can also include "Pocket knives" too) . I searched ALL of AAPK and I cannot find a way to Donate any funds to AAPK((other than paying a bill they send me if I sell enough knives)). I also have MANY Pocket knives that I want to Donate to "Poor folk" or Beginners. I would like to see A NEW Blog or Thread or whatever you call them,,,, on These ideas as I truly believe it to be a Good cause and that it would be HELPFUL to MANY including Mr. Bryan.
