Found something a little interesting

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

I don't know if anybody has noticed, but there actually is one schrade cut listed with genuine stag handles in the 1938 supplement catalog. Maybe I'm not the first to notice this, but I found it interesting nonetheless. Note that it says both blades are full crocus polished, pretty neat.

What's "Crocus Polished"? I've never heard of that before.

Crocus is i believe the finest grit of all the polishing compounds hence gives the shiniest blade finish, not quite mirror. This might need correcting in which case we both will learn.
I have at least 2 Schrade Cut Co folders with original stag handles. I will post a picture when i find them.

KJ is right, it as the grit of abrasive used to polish the blade.
It may have been the finest grit the used in those days, I don't think it is the finest grit available today.
I believe it was the finest grit commonly used to finish a blade aside from mirror polishing.
