Grandpa's glasses. Well I guess this shows what celluloid will do, the last time I'd look at these they were whole now most dust and small pieces, the clip on shades belonged to my dad probably dates to the fifties. Throwed in pa's ole hair clippers, I can remember him cutting my hair with them like it was yesterday, those things pulled more than they cut but it was probably me jerking around more than his clipping.

I got clipped with clippers just like those as a kid and they did pull hair.

In 2008 my left eye was injured pretty severely. I can see out of it but the iris stays wide open and doesn't adjust to light.
If I look at a small dot of light in darkness the dot becomes 5 closely clustered dots.
After the injury I got a new prescription for glasses and the ophthalmologist didn't have a lot of hope for correcting the vision for
my injured eye. Rightly so, new glasses have done nothing to help.
A few years ago in my attraction to optics I bought these neat old glasses. I brought them home and cleaned them and as usual put them on just for the sake of trying them, never expecting anything special. Nothing special ever happens when you try on old glasses.
They simply aren't for you. Except this time. These old glasses worked for me. They are now my reading glasses at my bed.
They correct my left eye vision and improve vision in my right eye as well, for reading. At first I had to go upstairs a few times and put the glasses on to prove it to myself. I don't know how to answer for something like this but it is pretty cool.

Joe, that's just wonderful! Have you shared that with your eye doctor so they can figure how that lens helps correct your vision in the left eye? Who knows , but it might be a new discovery.

Joe that's great, there's some weird and wonderful things that happen now and then, the Lord works in mysterious ways. Thanks for sharing. I remembered where one pair of specs were, my wife made a shadow box and put some things that belong to my mother and granny in it. Its hard to get pictures without glare but I ain't taking it apart as I know where my bread is buttered at. You'll notice that the little shoe knife that belong to gandma has fallen to the bottom of the box. There's stiill some more ole specs around here somewhere.

Great "Off Topic" subject Joe.
Big Homer, after viewing your wife's shadow box, I had to visit my antique box's full of early to mid 1800's residing in the closet. (I visit them often) I knew a pair of old spectacles were in there.
I found them and posted below along with some other wonderful old items originally from a family in Wheeling W.V.
It appears that these spectacles were given to another family member for a Birthday gift. The attached cards were within the gift box containing the spectacles.
The gift box was originally a "Matchstick" box, notice the "Ivory" pull ring. The small square box for stick pins also homemade. Stick pins at this time in America were hand made, all different pin lengths and end balls. No machinery for pin or nail production in those days. (Remember seeing "Square Headed Nails" in some antique items)?
All the tiny leftover pieces of thread, wire, cotton, etc. was saved for later. Nothing thrown away.

That's great Dan I love it, the hand made items are wonderful what a great gift card. I found another of my wife's arrangements in her curio cabinet and I found a pair of momma sunglasses although they aren't antiques they are kinda unique. I threw in some other items hope you don't mine Joe, don't want you to think I'm trying to hy- jack the thread.
