Charged & suspended....How shameful

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Sigh......How can there be any response to something like this?? Our society has changed so much that we have to arrest 10 year olds with pen knives..

I sincerely feel our country is on the wrong path that is leading to a Gestapo police state where the rights we talk about will be a long gone thought of yesterday...I wonder how this will affect the 10 year old who was arrested and booked as a criminal...

I carried a large folding hunter Schrade knife in my pocket when I went to school. School staff knew it and nothing was ever said.Matter of fact, I've carried a pocket knife ever since I was big enough to put one in my pocket. Of course, that was many years ago. My youngest son, who is in high school, carrys a Buck 110 everyday. They even have a police officer in all the schools where we live. In this case though, I could see the big fuss if the kid was a problem child or unstable and it was a 12 inch bowie or a dagger but, an average, ordinary, everday using pocket knife (not a weapon) carried by a young man shouldn't be something to get arrested over.
A dull knife is like an empty wallet, no need to carry it.

I believe this is all from way back when we agreed or forced to comply with the removal of the woodshed. It is the LAW you are not to spank a child for some one thinks that is ABUSE. We now are in about the 4th generation of no spanking. Young kids now days are not forced to obey and have more rights and POWER than a criminal. I for one that drives a school bus sure would not want a student on my buss with a Buck 110 in his pocket. Do to the fact he was not spanked for doing bad things in the past. He could stick a student just over a misunderstanding of words.
They truly feel that they don't care about a fellow student any more.
When you hear the words "I DON"T CARE" this should be a RED FLAG.

Take a look at what has happened to this country after following Dr. Sparks book on NO SPANKINGS. (I know his name is spelled WRONG).

After WW 2 women in the factories trusted their fellow workers and bosses. The men that came back trusted other men they did not know. Can you say this is the way it is NOW ? I for one can't even trust what I read to day in the news papers is true. So how can I trust a student with a knife today on my bus ?

Bottom line bring back that TRUSTED WOODSHEID. Help the parent with a problem child and stop punishing the parents.

DITTO, I WISH PEOPLE WOULD PULL THE HEADS OUT AND START REALIZING THAT THE WORLD WE MAKE TODAY IS THE WORLD OUR CHILDREN WILL HAVE TOMORROW. MY PARENTS RAISED ME WITH A SOLID WORK ETHIC AND DON'T QUIT TILL THE JOB IS DONE. DIDN'T LIKE IT THEN BUT SURE GLAD THEY DID THAT NOW. WISH SOME OF THESE TEACHERS AND ADMIN. HAD THAT KIND OF RAISING. THEN MAYBE THEY'D HAVE A LITTLE COMMON SENSE AND LOOKIN OUT FOR THE OTHER GUY. THERE, ENDED THE SERMON.

Media Mogul Billionaire Robert Murdoch pretty much controls the news or what goes into the major papers, it's the small independents that end up printing the truth when they can afford the cost of doing so. Not only does this Jewish Australian become Americanized for business profit control the news but also many magazines, Journals, and owns Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones, and owns MySpace amoungst others. Google this guy and go throw up, one guy controls the media in almost all formats. If he controls the media he must own George Bush and what the news can say about him.

I do favor Corpral punishment, one swat not a beating. My eldest child now grown threatened me with "that's against the law". I just said stick that butt out for a swat or pack your suitcase for military school. We reached an understanding and that never happened again. Once was enough.

Hukk I fell I could trust your son on my bus with a knife.

I am sure he would not stick another student, but if necessary defend his and others if their life was in jeopardy. He may take it out to show some one but not to cut up the seats on my bus or hand it to some jerk that would.

No, I don't believe Dan would use it on anyone. The only time I could see him use it would be if he were attacked with a knife. But, I see in him at 18 years of age, a wisdom that would keep him out of any such situation. He is very likeable and trustworthy. Makes me proud at 18 that I can say that.

Just MHO, but one of the problems with today's society is that there is an attempt to solve all problems with legislation.

You can't buy kerosene any more, unless you have a yellow can, because a few idiots have put gasoline in their space heaters. Darwin cannot be legislated out of operation. Legislation will not stop murders or assaults, nor will outlawing guns or knives

Common sense, as well as morals and ethics have to be learned at an early age, yet some children today can threaten a parent who spanks them, or a school bus driver who trys to maintain order, with jail.

Suspending a 10 yr. old, who according to the article I posted, was a good kid who made a mistake, and charging him with the Lord only knows what, does not solve any problem. Boys of my generation all carried their knives to school. If you fooled with it in class, the teacher would make you put it on her desk until after school. Men only a few years older than me, in this area, hunted on the way to school and home.
They had to leave their guns on the porch during class. No one was ever threatened or harmed.

Now, childen are not taught morals, or ethics, or fair play. Prayer is outlawed in schools. It was not there to offend minorities. It was there to reinforce guiding principles.

Any adult who reprimands a child with more than a tongue lashing is threatened with law suits or jail.

On the other hand, children who have a pocket knife, draw pictures of guns, or point their fingers in a way suggesting one, are hauled off by the police. They are protected by law from rebuke, and are punished by law for imagination. What was a generation ago, accepted as appropriate behavior, is now made more attractive by being forbidden, with no guiding principles of action and consequence. A child who draws a picture of a gun, is treated almost as harshly as one who actually uses one to harm another. We are only a scant distance from the thought police, when we treat fantasy and fact with near equality. No wonder kids are screwed up, and we're now entering the second generation of them. What kind of parents will they make ?

I don't know about the rest of the world Justold but, spanking was never stopped when I was a kid, nor when my sons were growing up. I would never let my kid or anyone else's have or hold a knife of any kind , that I didn't know was responsable enough to have one. You are exactly right about the removal of the old wood shed statement. I've listen to both sides of the aurguement and how some say that by spanking a child, we only teach them to do physical harm. I've also heard the "TIME OUT" aurguement. The reality of it is, there was a TIME OUT" that happened at the house where I was raised. My Dad took "TIME OUT" of his busy day to bring smoke off of us 5 sons of his. I thought at that time that he just hated us but, in hind sight, I see that if he didn't do what he had to then, we probably all would have been in prison. None of the 5 of us died or even had to go to the hospital for any time that he spanked us. It worked for my Dad so I used it with my sons. I'm 6"1" and 255lbs. and both of my sons are bigger than I am, and there isn't any fat on them. My oldest is a heavy equipment operator at a large strip mines, the youngest is finishing up high school. I would bet a dollar against a doughnut that I could tell either one of them to do something and they will do it, right then or tell both to stand still because I'm going to spank them and they will stand right there and never move or ask why. I think the problem today with kids is, too much talk and not enough action. They need to learn that there are after effects to their actions and loosing a cell phone or a playstation is only softening their punishment. My Dad and Mom believed in the Bible, and Dad made us boys believers too, with the part about spare the rod and spoil the child. If it was good enough for me, it's good enough for my sons as well.

That's the way it was with my brothers and myself, Gary. Only difference was he used a miners belt on us. I don't think it would have hurt half as bad if Dad would have removed the battery light and the metal self rescuer from his belt before he used it on us.

YEAH GARY, MY DAD WOULD USE A BELT OR SEND ME OUT TO GET A LIMB AND IF I BROUGHT ONE BACK THAT WAS TOO SMALL....WELL, LETS JUST SAY THAT I DID NOT BRING BACK A SMALL ONE. AND IT DIDN'T HURT ME NONE. IN FACT I NEVER HELD THAT AGAINST MY FOLKS BECAUSE I KNEW I DESERVED IT. BECAUSE I KNEW RIGHT FROM WRONG AT AN EARLY AGE FOR SURE.

Sunburst I agree with ya about society turnin into a Gestapo state around here. Stories like this really quirk me off. And yall are right about the lack of discipline these days. Im only 31 but Im amazed at some of the behaviors I see with kids nowadays. I was raised pretty old fashioned and my daddy was a firm believer in the leather cowboy belt or even now and then the ol saddle strap he kept hangin in the barn. Man I hated gettin a lickin but ya know what it worked. ::tu::
