Anyone Else Get Obsessed With 1 Particular Knife

Post by JohnR »

I just can't resist 1972 Queen Drake Well Anniversary Barlow's. Every time one pops up thats reasonable I got to buy it, just bought the sixth tonight. Not sure why that is, they have fantastic saw cut bone, nice bolster stamp, the unique older Queen bolster shape, you know the year they were made, just love the way they feel and carry.

Anyone else can't resist 1 particular knife from 1 manufacturer?

Oh heck no, John. I'm not obsessed with Camillus 72s or their clones. I don't have to buy everyone that comes up and I can pass up Camillus 14s and other medium jacks just like they weren't there. Honest I can. And I don't have to have every knife I see that has a Wharncliffe blade..................... ::facepalm::

I'm not like you. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not.................

Who me? Obsessed? Never.

Let's see:
XX era CASE 6375
CASE 6217 Loomfixers
Western bone 74x patterns
Camillus 72
Camillus 89

And that's all I care to admit to right now. Lol

I've obsessed over a few different knives at different points in my years of collecting.

Here's just one example: Case Wharncliffe Copperhead (49 W)

Thanks, jerryd, I know we both share a fondness for wharnies and mini Ts. Believe it or not, I've gotten a few more since that photo was taken but I didn't feel like setting up another photo shoot...plus, they wouldn't all fit in the frame anyway! ::dang::

Nice obsessions. But I don't think it's obsession but an appreciation of fine craftsmanship and superior design. What sane person wouldn't want to surround himself with several examples. My advice is; keep it up.

Awesome pile of Wharnies QCut ::tu:: ::tu:: ... Personally I like variety in knives for the accumulation though I have a few sub-collections of the same pattern or style knife but from different makers :) ... To me I can see why one would get obsessed with a knife that speaks to you from the same maker & pattern # - like potato chips - you can't have just one ::nod:: ... or maybe it's the knife talking saying I need a few friends ::paranoid::

I have a very hard time passing up a clean, pre-1983 Case 5318 or 6318. I also like the Schrade USA variations (897UH, etc.). OH

I guess I could admit to a certain fondness for Schrade's 233 pattern...especially Herman Williams 233's

Thanks Joe...I've been collecting Herman's knives for quite a few years. I've been re-doing some of my displays and getting a few of the patterns all together for the first time...like the 233"s 33OT's and 833UH's. I've just about finished making the display frame...waiting on the glass to be cut... for the 152's. Now that's a pattern a lot of collectors have obsessed over. When it's done I'll post a picture. Some Herman Williams goodness guaranteed.
