Help on a Remington knife.

I picked this knife up for a $10 education. I think it's a 70's German made Remington? I think it's a boys Knife? I think I really don't know what it is. Being stamped USA and having never seen this stamp style makes me wonder what it is. I bet someone here can set me straight. Thanks Keith

Kieth this knife looks quite like knives I have seen that were marked Allen Cutlery Co. Newburgh N.Y.. They are unique and simple knives and were made to be very low cost. The tension of the frame eliminated the need for a back spring and the blade pivot pin will move in the slot that is cut out in one side of the single piece folded steel handle. Goins dates Allen c. 1917-1925 so the years do coincide with Remington production knives. I have never seen a Allen type folder with Remington stamps before. Maybe someone else here has. The Allen knives are usually marked on the handle rather than the blade. Longblade has done some research on Boy's knives. Maybe he will have some insight.

A very cool little knife. Maybe made on contract for Remington.

I don't really like the looks of the stamp much. It looks to be oddly off center as far as the "Remington" is related to the "Made In USA" portion of the stamp. Does it look like that in hand as well?

George Schrade also made similar design knives but they were different from the frame shape of the Allen knives.

You are correct Wayne. The Remington stamp is deeper and definitely not centered with regards to the use stamp. Appears to be 2 different stamps.

Interesting knife - all seems right on it except the stamp... no doubt this patented design of a folded frame was from a Allen Cut Co patent and while considered a Boys Knife in the single blade design it was also made with a pruning blade, single clip blade, and a two-blade version - so not all considered a Boys Knife and I read that some considered it a scouting knife. It was first patented and made in 1917 and Allen only existed until 1925 but many other companies made the same design using the patent (Eagle as one and a version of it by Schrade with the wire-jack - all early 1900s) - and Remington did not appear to be one of them. Imperial also made it in later years and "Made in USA" was not unusual on an Imperial knife... so looks like someone took the liberty and tried to fake a Remington stamp on it - though in truth it seems ridiculous as these were cheap knives and really how much more money would be generated by stamping Remington on it. As an aside some had the company name stamped on the handle while others had it stamped on the tang. All looks right on the knife including sliding mark side pin and smaller pin on pile side. Here's an old thread I just found on Allen Cut Co in AAPK - there is even a link to the patent by Allen who actually was from New Britain CT though the company was located in Newburgh NY... viewtopic.php?t=7445 ..

Thanks Lee. I thought it interesting myself that it may have been restamped. I paid $10 for it. I think that is probably the value of it with or with out the stamp. I appreciate your reply and for the link.
