Hammer Brand

I found another old knife in my stuff today, one acquired through the old construction worker's game of "drop knifes". On the side of the single blade, it's marked HAMMER, and what looks to be BRAND. the Brand is partially covered up. on the other side of the blade, it's marked PAT. NO., and the number is covered. The scales are marbled purple, plastic of some sort. The very tip of the blade is broken off. The overall condition of this knife is tight, and solid. Can any of our experts give me any information on this knife's age, maker, and worth? The more I look at my Hodg Podg collection of knives, the more interesting, and complex identifying them gets. Your knife was made by Imperial. They used the Hammer Brand trademark from 1936 until they closed (I think that was in 2004). Hammer Brands for me are difficult to date since the construction and style never really changed all that much from the original.

Hammer Brands aren't worth much. They were considered a lower-quality and inexpensive user. Plus Imperial made a ton of them, so they aren't rare. Often at gun shows and flea markets I see Hammer Brands in boxes full of miscellaneous knives. Usually they only ask a dollar or two unless the knife is near mint. Even then it's normally priced under $10.
