Grandpa's Case stag railsplitter

Post by 58chevy348 »

Thought I'd share a knife with a story. This Case 5299 1/2 belonged to my grandfather. Back in the late 1970s, my grandfather had acquired this knife by trading one of his beagle hunting dogs for the knife. After carrying it for a short time, my father began to admire the knife. Dad had also been into raising beagle dogs, but was ready to get out of the hobby. Dad had two beagle pups left and offered them to my grandfather for this knife. Grandfather agreed and my dad put the knife away and never carried it. The stains you see on this knife were made by grandpa. It will never be cleaned. Grandpa died in 1994. In the late 1990s, dad gave me his small knife collection, including this knife. This is what started it all for me. In some ways, my hobby of knife collecting was a gift from grandpa, and certainly from dad.

The knives with family history my favorites! I have knives that belong to both of my grandfathers. I even have one on my great-grandfather's straight razor; though he was dead long before I was born.
