Has anyone checked this movie out yet??...I did..To be honest,I was a little disappointed..A friend let me borrow his copy.knowing the Western nut that I am....I think it was worth watching but I'm glad that I didn't buy it.
Anyone else feel this way???

I have'nt seen it yet but will soon. This weekend I also missed out on the annual 'Gathering of Gunfighters" at the Yuma Territorial Prison. Did'nt find out about it until it was too late

Johnnie, Iam with you! The add says best Western since "Unforgiven"

and that's a load of PR CRAP! It's not a bad Western but it's nothing

special. I thought the ending was kind of silly from the Bad Guys

perspective, like WHY?

Well that just burst my bubble. I've been waiting to try and get that movie from Netflix in the worst way and thought it looked like a good one.

I watched this one just the other day and I found it to be a complete disappointment.

Plus, it was an illogical plot in the last hour of the movie. I don't recall that in the original version.

I couldn't believe that they even compared this movie with the Unforgiven!!

Hey Jim, Its worth watching,cause theres not many new westerns to choose from.But I personally wouldn't buy it..IMO

I have not, probably will sooner or later.

Although two parts are gone, The third and last is tonight Jan 16. The title is Comanche Moon. It is showing the buildup to the Lonesome Dove mini. It so far is entertaining, not great but worth watching. I have always liked Val Kilmer, this product has drawn out some acting talents that he has not shown before tho. If you watched Lonesome Dove and liked it this one is worth while just to answer questions the original left. I cant recollect which network it is on, Chan 6 out of Ptld. Or. at 9PM.

i watched it tonight. i was disappointed in the ending too. i actually thought in the first 30 mins, i would probably end up watching it again before sending it back to blockbuster but after seeing all of it, its sealed and ready to go back without an encore presentation

wouldve been ok but the ending was kinda dumb.

Well I watched the movie and I give it two stars out of four. Probably the most illogical story imaginable. An outlaw killer with a conscience just didn't make sense. The ending was so far fetched with Russell Crowe running and crawling as fast as he could to get to the train was ridiculous. About the only part I did like was that cold blooded stare he gave to one of his men just before he shot him. I still prefer movies like Pale Rider and the Unforgiven.

I also liked Unforgiven, certainly one of the best ones. Eastwood is hard to beat.
In my never to be humble opinion, my all time favorite is Lonesome Dove. I realize it was just on TV, but still the best to me.
Great characters, great story! WOW! I may dig the old tape out and watch it again today.

I agree Lonesome Dove was a great mini series!!

Its hard to beat Jones and Duvall...I guess I really don't have a favorite movie in the Western genre,cause I like so many.But one that sticks out in my mind is the Outlaw Josey Wells..That one is definitely high on my top 10 list!!

Outlaw Josey Wells AND Jerimiah Johnson

I kinda like that movie with Duvall and Kevin Costner (free grazers) at least when they hit town. Then Kurt Russell is darn good with his cast in Tombstone.

Do you guys remember any of these 70's movies; Cole Pepper cattle Co.,McCabe and Mrs Miller or Bad company??I really miss movies like these.

I'm a western nut myself. I agree with the general opinion about 3:10 was good but not great. My favorite is Tombstone closely followed by Lonesome Dove. That being said i just finished Comanche Moon. I highly recommend it.
Its one of the few movies that does justice to the first.

For anyone who doesn't know, and from what I've read you guys know your westerns, but I'll post it anyway. If by chance you haven't watched these, they are DEFINITELY worth watching. The first in the Lonesome Dove series is Dead Man's Walk, where Gus and Woodrow first became Texas Rangers......great movie. Then Lonesome Dove. Then Return to Lonesome Dove where Woodrow comes back. And the last til now.....Streets of Laredo, Woodrow as a bounty hunter in his later years. Comanche Moon is the last movie made of the series, to the best of my knowledge, which is limited. All great movies. By the way is Comanche Moon on dvd yet? Thanks

Brad Comanche Moon just came on CBS this week. There is also Lonesome Dove: The Series and Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years both TV series.

They begin two years after the end of "Lonesome Dove". After two years spent bounty hunting, womanizing, and drinking away the painful memories of his late wife, Hannah, Newt Call returns to town to find many things have changed. His brother-in-law, Austin, is now an alcoholic sheriff, who has never fully recovered from his beloved sister's death, and blames Call for it. His father-in-law, Josiah, is the town mayor, but hasn't been right in the head since Hannah died. The town is run under the iron fist of Clayton Mosby, who also cannot forget Hannah, who looked amazingly like his late wife, Mary. "The Lonesome Dove", the hotel opened in the mini-series by Ida Grayson, now belongs to Amanda Carpenter, a woman with a mysterious past and a determination on par with Clay Mosby's. Curtis Wells also gets a new gunsmith, a mysterious and feisty woman named Mattie Shaw.

I think the way Comanche Moon ended they musy be planning on another showing the years between LD and CM. When Gus and Woodrow were actually in Lonesome Dove. At least I think they were there. Did the return to lonesome dove show up til calls death.

TANK, are the two tv series you mentioned on dvd or strictly mini-series? I can't miss them if possible. Each one is 6 hrs and I know I've watched each a dozen times and that is a modest guess. By the way has anyone ever seen the guy who wrote Lonesome Dove, Larry McMurtry in an interview? Just by hearing him talk, I wouldn't think he could watch a western, let alone write these great pieces.

Well i just finished watching 3:10 to Yuma. I see what you guys mean about an illogical ending. Although, the daily dose of murder and mayhem I see on the news is enough to make a guy ask himself just where the world is headed, I enjoyed the ending of the movie. It is nice to think and imagine,even if only for 15 minutes, that there is honor and decency even in a character like that. And I'll take that over the evening news anytime.

Brad they were syndicated spin-off TV series centering on Newt (Scott Bairstow) taking up residence in the fictional town of Curtis Wells, Montana, having adopted his father's family name of Call. Starting out as a fairly romanticized interpretation of the west, it was heavily revamped for its second season, gaining a much grittier feel and the new title Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years. Filming took place in Calgary, Alberta, and a total of 43 episodes were produced, airing between 1994 and 1996.
Both series are available to rent or buy.

tank's new avitar reminded to check on Comanche Moon on dvd. They have them listed on ebay now but won't ship until Feb. 25-28. A little pricey at the moment but I'm sure they will come down after the release. Can't wait to see it. I didn't catch the mini series talked about on here.
