What is this knife?

Hi!

Love this piece I received in a lot. No markings ( I can find) besides "High Carbon Steel." Any idea maker /origin/age?

Made by Camillus for Sears Roebuck & Co. Good quality knife.

Rogers Bone? As in bone handle? Example I looked up seemed to say it's a synthetic handle

Well hooray for your side, the handles are not synthetic. As Dale said, that's some gorgeous pocket worn Rogers bone on that old Utility/Scout knife.

Is the mark side as crack and chip free as the pile side you've shown?

Definitely Camillus made bone handle utility made for Sears and old judging from the can opener!

It is basically Camillus's Utility Knife Manufacture from 1941 - 1946 ~ Same Knife ~

According to the Kastor list, Camillus discontinued the 'High Carbon Steel' stamp in 1940.

If you open the main blade of a knife using your right hand, the blade folds out to your right and you will be able to see the "Tang Stamp" on the blades tang. That is the "Mark side". The side that has the manufacturer of the knife's "mark" on the tang of the main blade.

So pre-1940 for the Camillus, awesome!

Here is my Rodger Her Majestry 6 blade I was told was rare. Can't find anything on it on line.

I'm keeping these two knives, but am trying to figure if either have any substantial value if I ever need to sell.

That's a question I've often pondered on and have asked a few times as well.

You'll come to find out that getting an exact figure on any knife will be nearly impossible as a knife's worth and its demand for it fluctuates. Sometimes (rarely) you'll get a ballpark figure, if you're lucky. Substantial value?

Depends on how rich or poor you are at that particular time.

IMHO, the better of the two knives won't put more than 50 bucks in your pocket, if that, after it's all said and done.

The scout appears to be in much better shape than the other as all six blades are very worn on that one. Best thing to do since you like them is enjoy them. The scout is a good solid user.

But sometimes the initial joy will dwindle with time -- at least for me with some knives that are not in my list of favorite makes and models.

For a better evaluation of knives it's best to do a "sold listings" search on eBay for each knife with a play on words (since there are no model #s) until you find the same knife in the same or near same condition. Good luck and

Here is a Craftsman Sta-Sharp 9548, tang is marked: "High Carbon/Steel/U.S.A." The shield says "Scout" so this one is from early 1930's. In mid 1930's Boy Scouts of America ("BSA") managed to get the word "Scout" registered so it could only be used on official BSA knives. This is a Camillus made knife. Some of the Craftsman scout type knives were made by Ulster Knife Co.
