Robeson slicer

Here's a nice Robeson slicer I picked up at a second hand store.
It has been slightly abused but I think I can clean up the edge well enough. 12 1/2" blade.

Kewl That is the "For Men Only" model. That is the only second one I have seen. If you search my older fo-toes, I have one shown mint with box and paperwork. Made way back in the pre PC days!
Mine is in storage now, waiting for the buzzards to find and marvel at!

I have a couple of similar long slicing knives. I believe they were intended for thinly slicing ham or roast beef. Mine, like the OP example have their own sheath. Why were knives intended for use in a kitchen come with a sheath ?
Sheath protects the edge as long as you thoroughly wash & dry the knife before sheathing it, however no other kitchen/chef knife pattern comes with a sheath. Why does this one ?

I found the original photos I took in August 2007 on another edUkated TeeVee. Looks like a marketing thing for that period in time. Notice the card, not sure if they will enlarge on here.
But I am not sure where they are on AAPK. IIRC Sunburst was posting on here then, he collected Robeson knives and CCBill (R.I.P.) had some Red Pig stuff.

Interesting "For Men Only" advertising pitch. Still no explanation why these long thin slicers are the only kitchen knife that came with a sheath.

Robeson was only one of the knife companies that had a sheath for their long slicer. No point in writing Robeson. They have been closed for nearly 50 years.

Phil, i think there are 2 similar long slicer patterns: a Roast Beef slicer and a Ham slicer, but this is likely a British classification. Do you know anything 'bout this ? or did i dream it ?
The long mid position saber grind and round tip on OP knife makes this what i call a Ham slicer because we had one and my father called it "the ham knife" and only used it to slice ham. He only spoke "British".
