What do I have here?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

What do I have here?

I got this knife this past week from a gentleman I done some remodeling for. It's pretty neat and can't find out much about it and was pointed to this forum by a friend. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to AAPK. Your knife was made sometime from 1929-1956. Looks like bone handles. The rest is told by the knife itself - it's a push-button switchblade made by George Schrade in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Presto is the mark Greorge Schrade used on press-button switchblades. Nice knife. ::tu:: An advanced search of completed sales on eBay of press button knives will give you a good estimate of value. Many of these knives have broken or inoperable push-button mechanisms so be sure to check the listings for knives that operate (or don't) depending on how yours functions.

Someone that knows more will probably be along soon to add more info.

Thanks for the information. It works like a new one. I love old knives like this. Just learning the history and seeing what other people have is amazing.

That's a fine old knife Shotgun and a great start to your own collection. Don't be a stranger here as there is much to learn and admire in the postings. For a new collector a knife show is always an amazing experience, so tell us where you live and we can probably point you to a knife show in your area.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I live in Middle TN, between Nashville and Knoxville. We have a few shows every couple of months. I’ve collected a few knives over the years as my dad has always been a big Boker collector.
