VINTAGE-SCHRADE-WALDEN-NY-USA-1194Y

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

VINTAGE-SCHRADE-WALDEN-NY-USA-1194Y

Post by Shearer »

This is good money for a knife made by Camillus or Utica for Taylor. $187.50
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NM-VINTAGE- ... true&rt=nc

They could have BIN one for $51.95

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Schrade-Everla ... Swj-RZ3pP1

Get a couple of bidders who don't do research and anything can happen.

Of all the "Schrade Walden" repros done by Taylor after acquiring the rights to Schrade, this yellow 2 blade Trapper is the hardest one to distinguish the original from the 2004-5 Camillus made repro.
The 2 knives you link to are not the same: one is a real Schrade-Walden and one is the Camillus reproduction.
But, which is which ? I think i know, and i will say so after others have a chance to play.
Which one do you think is the original ?
This is a great quiz, thanks for posting.

Neither knife is an original schrade walden, the easiest way to tell is the pattern number, they are both 1194Y. The real s-w pattern is 294Y. None of the the s-w 294's had an everlastingly sharp etch, to the best of my knowledge. Camillus closely copied the view paks schrade used, but notice how the camillus one is labeled SCW 1194y, original s-w ones only have the pattern number in that area.

Well, great thread, i just had my Schrade brain refreshed.
Are these both Camillus made knives ? The shield is different, Oval & Federal. I had thought oval shield knife was original.
Is one of them Bear Mfg. ?

Paul is correct, word for word. All of the Bear and Son knives have a rocker pin for the spring, but no handle pins; the handles are glued. What is not definitively established is whether Camillus made any of these knives SLIGHTLY BEFORE the Schrade bankruptcy, or whether they all were made after the bankruptcy. There were a number of patterns also made by Utica after the bankruptcy, including trappers, but I don't think they made any yellow ones; they are all bone. The Bear and Son knives are bone.

Here is a couple of pictures of Utica made Schrades.
The one in the middle is not bone.
If they made a white one (which is fairly rare ),why would they not make a yellow one ? ::shrug::

Well, maybe they did make some yellow ones? Don't they sell their own branded knives which are basically the same thing as what they made for 'Scharade'? I think I heard that Utica bought some Camillus machinery.

Utica did sell the same knife as they made for Schrade.
I had another member send me the measurement for the Utica trapper and it was the same as the Schrade Walden 1194.
This is the only way I know they are the same knife.
It seems Taylor just did not want people to know where they had knives made.
