If the "M" was at the beginning of the pattern, it would refer to a metal handle on some patterns, but yours is a yellow trapper. There is the mention of a few Case Trappers being made with a Muskrat clip blade in Steve Pfeiffer's 1st book, Collecting Case Knives. A Muskrat blade is more slender in shape than either the California Clip or the standard clip. Maybe the "M" might refer to that type blade?
I'm just guessing, perhaps Mr. Pfeiffer, aka knifeaholic, will come by and answer your question.
