Remington Switchblade

Post by muskrat man »

I did some work on this one for a forum member. Good blades, but the handles were gassed and the main blade didn't lock open or closed. He sent the knife along with a set of replacement scales. Luckily I had a parts knife to rob some stuff off of.

This is how I got it:

I removed the handles and took a peek:

The other handle showed why the blade didn;t lock, the tag that kept tension on the spring was broken off becuase of corrosion.

This ppicture shows the origional with the replacement, you can see which parts are missing:

remove the 5 pins retaining the spring and stop bar:

Then all of a sudden the handles were on it (sorry, got too involved and didn't take any pictures between then and now). That is glare on the tip of the mainblade. My poor photography at it's best.

Nice work, if you send that one to me by mistake it won't hurt my feelings.

Nice work Kaleb. :lol:

At least I know you aren't me. But hey, you did a real nice job, I wouldn't mind if someone blamed me for it! :mrgreen:

Thanks for the pics. I have not worked on any of those old automatics. It was good to see what was inside.

Dale (I think) ::shrug::

If you don't mind me asking muskrat man, what did you do to fix the problem with the blade locking open and closed, and what might you charge to repair this problem on a knife. You may PM me should you wish. Thanks

the tab was broken so the liner and lock mechanism had to be replaced with original parts. Sometimes this is the problem, sometimes the problem lies elsewhere. PM or email me for pricing
