Yankee Whittler

William H. Maher and Emil Grosh started the Maher & Grosh Wholesale Cutlery Co. in 1877 with a goal to sell high quality US manufactured cutlery globally. The original business dissolved in 1988, but the brand has since been resurrected.

Yankee Whittler

Post by kootenay joe »

The GEC website in "Production Schedule" shows that a Maher & Grosh "Yankee Whittler" is next in line to be made.
It uses a GEC #78 frame same as the GEC "American Jack".
There are no drawings posted to see what this knife will look like. I am starting this thread so that updates & pictures can be posted as we follow the progress to completion for this newest Maher & Grosh knife.
Any chance of someone posting a preview sketch ?

Roger, am I viewing the knife correctly? All three blades pivot from the same end? 3 backsprings?

That is a super pattern.
I prefer those single ended knives way more than 3,4,5, blades on both ends. It seems more logical... ::shrug::

Joe, it looks like you have an original Yankee Whittler !
Amazing, i have never seen this pattern before. Originals must be very rare.
The new Y.W. reproduction could get snapped up rather quickly as it is a pattern that almost no one has an example of.

I just ordered one of each....can't wait to get those babies to the knife room. This will make 7 NEW Maher & Grosh knives. If Roger and Ken keep things going I will need to carve out some extra room in the Schrade-Canal Street Room....

I hope to see the next new pattern by Blade Show Time.....Hint, Hint

Thank you Roger and Ken for the newest additions to the Maher & Grosh lines

Despite the best efforts of the USPS to keep them from me my 2 Yankee Whittlers showed up today and boy was it worth the wait. Absolutely stunning beautifully made knives.
Well made, classy vintage etched and stamped, nice firm pulls, great covers, really nothing that I don't like with these knives. Put a GEC 77 in the pictures for comparison.

John and Joe you guys did a wonderful job with the photos. My pair arrived today too, but I won't even attempt to post pics of them after seeing how well you two did. Suffice it to say I'm very pleased with both of mine. They are super knives.

Reading the posts here i can actually feel the enthusiasm that this knife is delivering. Makes it hard to resist.

Might the current Maher & Grosh also be bringing out the 2 blade version ? With the same handles they would make a royal 'set'. And those of us who love 'slender' will have to have one.
