Customized Northwoods Indian River Jack

Re-organizing some display cases, and I decided to let this one go to make some room.

Started life as a 1095 Scagel pull Indian River jack, back at the end of Dave Shirley's ownership of the Northwoods name (2008). I bought this sight unseen, and the ebony handles it had were unlike any ebony I'd ever seen. Very light and streaky (re: not ebonylike at all), and if I recall there was some chip out near the shield. It certainly was not the kind of finish I had come to expect from Northwoods.

Anyways, being stuck with it, it ate away at me for a bunch of months, and I eventually tore it down, tumbled the blade with a fine porcelain media and replaced the handles with some stabilized snakewood (only stab. snakewood I've ever run across. it was expensive I recall, but well worth it. Took a great polish and didn't move at all) and fileworked the backspring with a bit of a modified vine pattern. All around a great little carry knife that I've never carried.

But alas, the wife would have killed me as I was just explaining to her that, in the aftermath of some expensive heating repairs, we must try to be more fiscally responsible.

Now... I'm sure we would all agree around here that this would not qualify as a fiscally irresponsible purchase, but the wife seems not to be as logical as I & we when it comes to rationalizing knife purchases

I've got a vacation coming up at the end of Feb., and the wife would have my hide if I bought a bunch of stuff this month. Course, that probably won't stop me...

For $80 this knife is such a good deal that is was a financially responsible decision. The Indian River Jack usually sells in the $200 range on the secondary market in the last few months. I think it could be re-sold for ~ $150 giving you almost 100% profit so it would not have been a "fiscally irresponsible purchase".
Bryan you could consult with members here for debating points. Most knives can be rationalized !

You guys are all far to kind.

I honestly think we've hit "Peak Northwoods" territory. The secondary market for most of them is really crazy. Chalk it up to the resurgence of slipjoint popularity.

This one was pretty, but it doesn't count, since it's not in original condition. One of my Instagram followers picked it up with the intention to carry it I think, which is ideal IMO.

I remember well when the Indian river jack was my crush because it was so minimalist.
Snake wood was my crush too but I wouldn't touch it because it was too prone to cracking and not available stabilized.
To find some stabilized makes the knife extra special.
