"Rostfrei" means stainless steel. Doubt they were making stainless daggers in 1936. But I could be wrong.

Oops, i forgot '72 when i posted 1936.
Stainless steel has been used for knife blades since early 1920's although i do not know when it was first used for a dagger or military knife.

I collect aw daggers-do not have any hitler youth type dags. marked like this-but aw made them for ww2-he may have had parts or re-made these to make some Olympic money..he made many contract knives for usa market... in business from 1875 to early 1990s...the daggers I have made by him are stag handle kris blade very well made...if you can get on usa e-bay..search anton wingen knife or Othello..he made a lot of nice stag kitchen type knives...

When I was researching Olympics knives I read that there were never any officially licensed knives by the German or any other Olympic committee. They even arrested people for making unlicensed stuff during the Berlin Olympics. They went on to say that the knives from older Olympic games were pretty much all fantasy pieces. That said; I have this knife (been through a fire), notice the Olympic rings on the far left. I'm still looking for info.
