You're not alone Brother. The same thing is happening right here too...Mr. Chips wrote:I really do despair for my country. Utter fools are running things, and even bigger fools are voting for them.

In essence what was formerly a simple "flick of the wrist" test was arbitrarily changed to "a flick of the wrist accompanied by manipulation by the thumb of......the flipper or other non-edged parts of the blade....to overcome the initial resistance."Impact of CITT’s Decision
Ultimately, the CITT, in its decision, elected not to establish a new test, but instead applies the current test in what is unquestionably a more rigorous manner, despite asserting that the current test “has sufficed for over twenty years.” In its decision, CITT defines the centrifugal force test as determining whether “a simple and brisk outwardly flick of the wrist releases the blade from the handle into the fully ejected and locked position.”
However, in testing the goods in question, the CITT admits that to open the knife, a “flick of the wrist is accompanied with minimal manipulation by the thumb of either the flipper or other non-edged parts of the blade, such as the nail nick, to overcome the initial resistance.” Although the CITT claims that it “has ruled in prior cases that a knife may still open automatically by centrifugal force even if it requires some preliminary or simultaneous manipulation of a flipper or part of the blade,” this assertion conflicts with the experience of stakeholders on both sides of the border. As such, CITT has essentially created a new test that has little basis in Canadian law.
All I can tell you is that the Canadian Border Services individual that I spoke to and several other members at the Osoyoos border crossing are taking this directive seriously, and do not intend to let ANY knives that can be opened with one hand through.kootenay joe wrote:There is nothing going on that is new or different. Flickable knives have long been banned in Canada but it is rarely enforced. About 2 months ago the Canadian Border Guards were sent notice reminding them about flickable knives. Most border guards will ignore it if you are crossing by vehicle. Postal Customs hardly ever open packages.
Things here are Business as Usual. There is no new threat to knives in Canada.
There is a lot of "news" on line that is really propaganda trying to get a reaction from the reader.

I think I would probably march in a protest against knives as well if they were made like the one shown on the sign that has a backwards handle. Notice that the finger choils on the handle are on the same side as the spine (not the cutting edge) of the blade. I'm 100% against knives that are made backasswards like that one...that's just plain criminal right there, pure & simple. There really ought to be a law against that (as well as protesting against something you obviously know nothing about--that young lady probably should have stayed in Art School)!knife7knut wrote:Could be a lot worse if it is allowed to continue without complaining.Got this off the net.
Unfortunately, Joe, there is a significant amount of "new" stuff going on and "Business as Usual" has changed for the worse.kootenay joe wrote:There is nothing going on that is new or different. This "Knife & Tool Institute" must have ulterior motives. I wonder if there is a NRA association ?

When I import knives for resale, I am required to fill out a form with the details of where the knives are made, how many, value etc. Failure to declare a commercial shipment will get you in a lot of trouble. 200.00 or 2000.00, that form gets filled out EVERY TIME. I pay GST every time too.kootenay joe wrote:Mr Chips, if the border guard you encountered was inclined to confiscate your knife he would do so both before and after this new 'directive' or whatever it is called.
The last about 10 years has seen an explosion in the field of tactical knives and how fast you can get the blade open. Lots of new designs with springs, pivot bearings etc make these knives open as fast and easily as a full auto. I think the government was practicing "CYA" (Cover Your Ass) sending out a meaningless directive so they can show they are up to speed with all these fast opening knives. I say 'meaningless' because the individual border guard gets to decide. The terms are still open to his/her interpretation. If you cross south of Vancouver i am told the guards are so busy they don't ask any knife questions and only start to charge you tax if you are bringing in $1000 or more worth of knives. They are supposed to charge for over $100.

Although I'm hesitant to do so, since we've already been taken off of the OP topic of knife laws, I will not let these typical liberal talking points go unchallenged. They are at best misinformed. For the record I do not expect to change the mind of the person who posted the statements. I want to provide some facts concerning those statements. After which you can decide for yourself.kootenay joe wrote: The NRA is in the business of promoting gun sales. The more guns in a society the more people get killed with guns. The NRA was founded to promote shooting sports and teach firearm safety. The NRA was forced, in response to liberal gun-grabbers, into creating an arm of the organization to protect the Second Amendment rights guaranteed all U.S. citizens. The NRA has never promoted gun sales. They do promote the rights of law-abiding citizens to own guns. The NRA has always advocated preventing criminals from buying and owning guns.
The statement "the more guns in a society the more people get killed with guns" is false. Here below are the facts. Click on the charts to enlarge.

It should be noted that many countries included in this data do not report firearm homicides as rigorously as the U.S. For example Britain reports only those homicides that resulted in arrest and conviction, whereas the U.S. data includes all firearm homicides. If the U.S. reported the same way as Brittain, the number of U.S. homicides shown in this data would be reduced by over 40%.
The U.S. has by far the highest number of firearms per 100,000., but the U.S. gun homicide rate per 100,000 is below average.
I find the last two charts of particular interest given all the rhetoric from liberal politicians and their multimedia sycophants stating the U.S. "leads the world in mass shootings". Unadulterated lies.

The one statement we can agree on is "the numbers are not hidden". But you do have to look carefully at what you read. For example the NY Times ran a headline stating more guns lead to more gun deaths. (Sound familiar?) However if you bothered to read their data published under the headline, it said otherwise!
