Question re Schrade Locking Mechanism

I have one of these Schrade Hunting / Fishing knives (these photos are not my knife) and I think the locking mechanism is defective. When I push the lock forward it does not lock the blade in the full open position. Instead I can still close the blade a little past 90° and then it stops, so it can't close all the way onto your fingers. I assume the lock is defective as it seems the knife should lock with the blade in the fully open position. Am I correct?

I'm going to sell this knife and I want to make sure I describe it accurately. Thanks,

Dennis; that is not a lock. It is just a protrusion of the backspring. Just the way that knife was made, inexpensive knife with wraparound handles enclosing most of the backpsring.

I could be wrong, but I have owned a number of those and none of them have locked.

Now that's an interesting observation Steve. It's knurled to take your thumb so surely it must have some function and not just be an artifact of the design. Maybe it isn't a true lock but just a feature that, if engaged, ensures the knife cannot close completely onto your fingers. Who else has one of these and can chime in on how yours works?

I just checked mine and it is a lock pushed forward and she locks up tight.

Most of the ones I have seen the lock function is spotty at best. I have an original Schrade and a Japanese copy(Uncle Willie's something or other)and the Japanese knife actually works better.

The lock on that pattern was one I never felt was reliable.

My mistake then...I guess on the ones that I owned, the locks never worked so I never knew that they were supposed to lock.

Same here, I never knew they were supposed to lock. I just thought that tab was their way to keep the spring in place.
