vintage Universal resistain,
new pickup, No indication it is related to L F & C. wood on the opposite side is cracked but that's okay.

3 brass rivets blade 8 inches wood handle 5 1/8th inch.
full tang marked stainless over the hallmark

LANDERS FRARY & CLARK (1865-1965), New Brittain, Connecticut.
By 1903, the company became the largest cutlery company in the world, as well as the first manufacturer of small electrical appliances.
From 1914 to 1930, produced and pocket knives.
The company made knives under a lot of brands. It is worth noted first class kitchen / butcher knives labeled «Double Shear Steel» and «Grand Prize / St.Louis 1904» «Universal»
The company was bought and destroyed in 1965 by General Electric

picked up a very nice meat cleaver today at a yard sale for $2.50. Pictures to follow.

Definitely a L.F.&C. mark. The shape around the Universal gives it away. Here is a set of table knives with the same mark.Handles are composition;not ivory.
The second picture is a set of table knives and forks with fancy composition handles that is also marked Universal stainless steel but without the frame around the mark.I'm not sure these are LF&C.

thanks for the reply's. Seen at a yard sale a aluminum canteen with the patent date or number under the name and L F & C. Forgot which but around 1920. only $5 but didn't need it.
