Hammer brand with leather punch. Any info will be helpful :)

Post by lindi1621 »

I'm having trouble finding any information on my pocket knife that I bought. I know that it's a hammer brand but I can't even find a picture on the internet to help me. Does anybody know anything about this little knife that I have?

I believe that is a pipe smokers model. It was made by Imperial and has a tamper on the one end. I am not a smoker so my terminology may need a little revision.

Just to add to what Ray posted, the small leather punch, in this case, was Imperials loose interpretation of a stem cleaning tool. Frugal yes, but they did make a lot of fun and interesting knives over the years.

I think the secondary blade is a scraper for cleaning the 'cake' off the inside of the bowl.
It is too wide to insert into the stem. Pipe cleaners (fuzzy wire) are used to clean the black tar from the stem.

You could be right KJ, but if you think in terms of the standard pipe smokers knife, the primary would be the bowl scraper and the secondary would be the intended stem cleaner. Again, I believe this was Imperials "loose" interpretation of the tool. However, I fully agree that the punch blade would be somewhat useless as a stem cleaner, but I also think the punch would make a rather useless bowl scraper as well. Although blunt ended, bowl scrapers are typically sharp edged blades.

No disrespect intended, just a difference of opinion.
