GEC AMERICAN ELK WHARNCLIFFE #72 (on eBay)

Post by QTCut5 »

I've had this GEC American Elk Wharncliffe #72 listed on eBay for a week (ends Sunday morning) and it's gotten surprisingly little traffic and fewer bids than one would expect for this particular knife. So, I thought I'd send out a quick alert notice on AAPK since I know there are a lot of GEC fanatics here. I realize it's entirely possible (and even highly likely) that people are simply waiting until the last second to enter a bid in the hope of scoring it for a bargain price (possibly even some of you). I'm totally fine with that, but, I figured if it's going to sell for a bargain price, might as well be to an AAPK brother; so, I'm putting the last minute word out just in case you haven't already stumbled across it in any of your eBay your searches (or are not a regular eBay user) and this is a knife you might be interested in.

The last bid I saw hit $272.00. I hope that's what it sold for. ::tu:: ::nod::

I had thought about listing a Red Elk 72 wharnie and completely talked myself out of it when your auction had 1 hour to go. Glad it jumped up there by the end.

I'm sending out a big MAHALO to all y'all who supported, i.e., bid on, this knife (and my other knives). Whether you won or lost the auction(s), I sincerely appreciate your support.

Here's a bit of interesting trivia, i.e., marketing research, for you to consider:

Out of the ten (10) knives I had listed last week, six (6) sold for a profit and four (4) sold for a loss. Although it would seem like selling the Elk 72 for $270 would guarantee an overall net profit; collectively, that batch of knives earned a net loss of $24...almost broke even (before deducting eBay & PayPal fees...so, in truth, I lost even more). Fortunately, I'm not doing this for monetary gain...only for personal profit, i.e., the enjoyment I get out of collecting (and the hot showers, of course!).

i.e., ~Q~

i.e., PS...Here's a sneak peek at the next batch that will be listed on my eBay site Sunday 8/5/2018.

Q, too bad so many Wharncliffes !
GEC has done a lot to further increase the popularity of the Wharncliffe blade. Yours are excellent examples. I'll be bidding for the non-wharnes.

How can you part w/ all those beauties? I wish I could buy all of them. I like warncliff blades. Thanks for the heads up. But I won’t hold it against you if you come to your senses and don’t sell any of them.

Nice batch of steel there Q. My favorite is the one dead center. The GEC Congress in American Elk. Looks to be Stainless and either a 61 or 62 pattern.
That one is going to fetch you a good dollar. Good luck with your sale but considering what you're selling, you won't need it. ::tu::

Thanks, Bruno...You're not alone, I've already had more than one interested party ask me how much I wanted for that Wharncliffe #62...my answer is always the same: I'm only asking $9.99, but will accept whatever amount whoever wants it the most is willing to pay for it at auction.

I confess that I did cave in and sell the Northwoods Mammoth Ivory Indian River Jack, so, it won't be showing up on eBay Sunday...but, I only sold it because I was returning some favors that I had accrued with a very generous AAPK store seller who's given me some great deals on other knives I wanted for my Main (Mini Trapper) Collection. Interesting to see how many very nice Mini Trappers can be purchased from the sale of a single GEC American Elk knife.
