PITBULLS - My heart really goes out to this one!!!

Howdy friends,

Some where out there is a naked Porcupine friends! ....The owner of this Pit Bull has got some outrageously high vet bills coming, that's for sure if in fact the dog doesn't get put down! ....I remember a time in my past when one of my Pit Bull males got into it with one of these spinney critters, the fight didn't last this long as my dog only got squared by three quills before he said "that's enough for me" ....I really feel for this poor dog as he may lose his life & if he doesn't may in fact be blind from now on & that's a real shame!

I have raised & owned this breed of dog for years & years without any trouble of any of my dogs ever being killers & the bad reputation that follows them is not warranted! Sure they are an a aggressive dog breed & others have taken advantage of this fact to train them to be fighters, I do not condone this as I always raise each & everyone of these dogs with loads of love & attention + give them the right training starting off when they are pups like all responsible dog owners should! All that I have raised you could never find any that would not protect you & yours to the death, not to mention the love & devotion you get in return from them! ....I have also included two shots of my female Red nose (Star) & the reason she looks worried is because she doesn't like her pictue to be taken for some reason, maybe shes camera shy?

Hey Roger,

That poor dog did not know the word quit did he!!! Of course that is what makes them pretty unique. I used to own several Pit Bulls as well, when I was a little younger. I never had a problem with mine either and they were most definately not aggressive toward humans.

Now the bulldog will come out of them when another animal happens to get in the way but as with all animals you have to be smart..I used to do a lot of hoghunting when I was younger and used my dogs as catch dogs. I had the prettiest Red nose pit I had ever seen at one time that weighed about 85lbs. You could throw a rock into a pond and this dog would dive in and disappear where the ripples almost stopped and then all of a sudden pop out with some object off the bottom of the pond..

The perception of the world around us has really ruined the great history of this breed. I currently have a Bullmastiff that is a 115 lbs of pure baby...

Your red nose looks great, its funny how some dogs are hard to get that perfect picture of...

Ya'll speak the truth. This here is the best dog I ever owned. Smarter than most people. A better coon dog than any hound I've ever seen run, and more grit than any hound'll ever have. I miss this dog to this day.

I've seen quills in a dog before, but nothing like that. Dang, poor thing looks like a cactus.

No, I honestly think its very atypical for a purebred pit to be aggressive towards people if it not have been raised to it. Their breeding for over a hundred years have had opposite priorities than aggressivenes toward humans, with that _not said that I´m defending gamebreeding. But in fact it has, as far as I know, been near to disqualifiyng with manbiters in that breed since no one would or could handle them in the situations of stress they had to endure if they didnt had a very high treshold between twolegged and fourlegged creatures. That shows also in the statistics; think they are to be found somewhere as nr 23 or 24 in the listings over breeds involved in reported bitingincidents with people procentually to registered individuals. So there would be 22 or 23 other breeds that are more prone to bite humans than the apbt then... That is most of the more common breeds i would say.

Low aggression/sharpness- high gameness. I dont count things like preydrive and such as aggressivenes. But yes of course, I know there are both strains and individuals that are more or less prone to dominance compared to other individuals of the breed.

Think that at least 90% of reported incidents which are said to involv APBT is in fact of other breeds or crossbreeds with dogs that are bred on dominance against humans, which the pitbullterriers are not.
Another factor is the economical; Articles about "pitbulls sell in media, more than articels about many other breeds would.. at least that is a fact were I live. That is some of the reasons why the breed is threatened of extinction today, I would say.

I like the rather new laws in California though; if I´m correct informed there is a law against crossbreeding(?) Crossbred pb´s is also a threat to the breed cause when you combine the intensity of a good pit with humanagressiveness from other kinds of dogs you can have a dog that is not suitable for the average dogowner to handle.

If I have got it right pits were something of a nationalbreed here in the U.S earlier in the beginnig of the 1900´s and under the first world war?... they are marvelous dogs as I know them, that deserves better than bans and exploatation by bad breeding with extreme not typical exteriors and cool looks as primary goal

I hope the owners did't make this poor dog suffer any more than he or she had to for their own well being,sometime you have to merciful and let something go.this is really terrible

Roger thanks for what you wrote about this breed and thanks to Sunburst for what he has said in the past. I have to admit that I have been ignorant of this breed, as I thought they were all just killers. The good thing about ignorance is that you are ignorant if you choose to be after finding out the real story behind anything. So thanks to you and anyone else who has enlightened me that this can be a friendly and family oriented pet.
