SHUR-SNAP switch blade

Colonial Knife was incorporated in 1926 by three brothers; Antonio, Domenic, & Fredrick Paolantonio. It grew to become one of the largest pocket knife manufacturers in the US during the 1960s. The company shut down in 1998, but was back into production under the Colonial Cutlery International Corporation in 2001. Colonial Cutlery International, Inc. brand is the imported line of knives and tools while the U.S.A.- made products fall under the Colonial Knife brand.

SHUR-SNAP switch blade

Post by Wharnecilff »

I picked up this Colonial SHUR-SNAP switch blade at an estate sale. I believe this is from 1948 but I'm a noobie. Anyone have more info?

Nice find; does it fire and lock correctly? What makes you date it to a specific year?

Dennis- It does fire and lock but the spring is weak so action is sluggish. Another member replied to one of my posts in the knife Q&A forum in regards to a mystery knife I got from the same estate sale and he pointed me at a thread with lots of Tang stamps from various makes..one is a list of various Colonial Tang stamps...and there is one example that matches this knife and it' lists that stamp as 1948...However I'm a noob and have not done any other research as yet. I got a ccouple of other 'antique' knives from the same estate sale .a remington circa 1935-1940 and a possible Northfield Un-X-LD from original company ..but need to do more research on that one too...point is the fellow whose estate it was had other knives with that kind of age on them ..but as I say, I'm new to this so could be completely wrong just as well .. Cheers!

Please link to or point me to that Colonial chart; I don't think I have a printout of that one. Thanks,

These date from approx. mid 40s to mid 50s and all had the same tang stamps.
