how do i reduce my pics in size.(for posting)

I don't have any problem reducing the size of my pics, I use my printer software. But no matter what size I make them, they have to be clicked to enlarge.

I see others posted here that fill the page, without clicking, and when I check their ' properties', they have a lower pixel count than my little ones. What's up with that ?

There are a loy of variables, original camera - how many pixels, compression, is it gif, tiff, bitmap, or jpeg. Well, we are going to the extent of my knowlege I'm sure someone will come along who can fill us in.

jpegs, a lot of sites require sizing to 100. mine are much larger. they post here and you can click to enlarge. but...for instance our avatars require downsizing. i don't see this ability in photobase.. or am i missing something? is it a camera setting? or ?

I just use the software that comes with word and excel when you buy that. It's Microsoft Office Picture that comes with the office software. You can do the basic stuff fairly easy with it.

Hi johnnie, don't know if photobase has resizing capability but if you go to this site, http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Best ... -free.html ,they have got a free resizing utility. I always save my images as jpeg, and resize to 1500 wide for posting here if they are bigger. Works for me

In my old days with Windows (I have Ubuntu Linux now) I used photofiltre as el Lobo recommends, for just basic fixes and resizing I believe that Irfanview is good.

The picture viewer in Windows XP can be used for resizing and has auto settings to prepare a picture for e-mail, web pages or documents, it does not give much versatility though, and you have to be careful using "save as" since it does not behave as most other software (keeps the original picture name, not the new one you saved with).

For posting I recommend to use jpeg and reduce compression quality to somewhere between 70 and 75, this will make the file size smaller but good for a computer monitor (not so good for printing though).

If you want the picture to appear full size in the post you can use a hosting site such as tinypic and post the image code that they provide.
