Foot in mouth disease anyone?

Remember John McEnroe the famous tennis player who used to throw hissy fits on the courts? Well I did the same thing yesterday and I feel terrible (the other player had it coming but I had no right to act the way I did). I will always regret it. Well, the only bright spot is that I gave a dozen acquaintances something to talk about besides their arthritis for a few days.
So... Does anyone have a story?

Had a package coming from Amazon, got home, package on doorstep.Opened it up and it was office supplies....not the kydex pistol holster I ordered. Called Amazon and got no where. Got locked out of my amazon account at the same time. Escalated quickly one supervisor after another telling me my package was delivered. I started to get a little louder and a little abrasive.Blood pressure getting higher by the second. More supervisors more arguing its the wrong package. getting nowhere fast. Almost yelling at this point on the phone to some poor soul at Amazon. Wheres my holster!

Quiet knock on the door....nieghbor asking me did I get her office supplies because she got a holster.......

Not for myself, but I have had a moment or two. Went to my wife's hairdresser to get my hair cut, my wife booked a spot at the same time. She got seated before me and was finished before my haircut was complete. She got up from the seat and continued to give her hairdresser both barrels, re-loaded and carried on for a massive tongue lashing. I only wanted the ends cut, it is too short, I never expected this, and on it went. She left leaving me in the chair to the sound of tumbleweeds and wind blowing, I felt so awkward too. Needless to say the conversation on the way home was nill. She stormed up stairs for about half and hour. Finally she came back down, you know what? I like the haircut now, It looks good, oooooooohhhh.

6 or 7 years ago I went to a funeral home visitation for the husband of an older cousin.I was in line waiting to pay my respects and turned around to see my deceased dad`s oldest surviving 1st cousin.I knew has wife had had some health issues,so I asked how Thelma was doing.He said "we buried her last Wednesday".

Geez, I hate even talking about it. I have what's called chronic foot in mouth disease.Dunno if it's the autism or what, but I'm always saying stuff and immediately regretting it.

Here's another one: I was checking my purchases out at the Walmart and visiting with the nice young lady clerk. She was pregnant and we chatted about the upcoming event. A week later and here she was again, so I asked her when the baby was due. She gave me a look that could fry bacon and said "I'm not pregnant!" Wrong lady. She sure looked pregnant to me!

The one that bothers me most happened over 30 years ago. A co-worker and friend named John was scheduled to make a business trip to Chicago. The afternoon before he was to leave, our boss called me and said John had gotten sick, and was sent to the hospital for tests. He asked me to go to Chicago in John's place. I agreed.

On the way home from work I stopped by the hospital to visit John. I walked into his hospital room, saw him sitting on the bed and jokingly said "Man, some people will do anything to avoid going to Chicago!" We laughed and talked for a few minutes and then I went home. The next afternoon when I called in from Chicago I learned John was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He was not a smoker. John died a few months later.

Those words "some people will do anything to avoid going to Chicago" haunt me to this day.

First thing I asked where his wife was. He went misty-eyed and looked at my wife ...
'you tell him' .... wife had no idea what he meant.

Poor man's wife of 40 odd years had gotten sick and passed away suddenly some 3 months earlier.

Seems everyone knew of this except the wife and myself ....



To top it off, she had been buried in the cemetery that is within sight of my house !

I've done the deceased loved one or pregnant, not pregnant thing so many times, I finally decided to just keep quiet about both issues.

I think the worst is when you know a woman to be pregnant, see her after a time and ask her when she was going to give birth, only to be told the baby was two months old. Done that more than once.

Don't recall ever losing my temper in public, but I do at home. usually while watching the news on TV.

I had one bite me once. I was waiting for my wife, Jane, at her mystery club meeting with our 18 year old grandson Dillon. One of the ladies in her club came up after and asked Jane if Dillon was her son. Jane said no, he's my grandson. Then she looked at me and said, "This isn't your dad?". I always been told I don't act my age, but apparently I look it. It was worth it to see Jane beam. She really doesn't look her age. I'm guessing people mistake the wisdom in my eyes for age...... Yeah, that's what I'm going with. Maybe I'll grow a pony tale or a man bun and get some of those baggy pants that tick off us old guys.____Dave

I've been known to shoot my mouth off when I should have been quiet. Part of my moms side of the family is Catholic. At a family reunion here a couple years ago there was a discussion going on on some family issue. After listening a bit I made a comment about the difference between Protestants and Catholics that made the Catholic side of the family look bad. Which wasnt my intent but it came out wrong and I knew as soon as I said it it was the wrong thing to say. I went looking for a rock to crawl under. I have learned the hard way its some times best to keep my mouth shut.
