Funny how things work-out..

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Funny how things work-out..

Post by jmh58 »

Sometime before Christmas I was over at BF and one of those "How Many Knives" threads came up.. I decided to count.. As I neared 300 and still had a pile to go I quit counting.. Got me thinking that maybe it was time to down size as I had more than I would ever use in 2 life times.. That was a flop because every time I put 1 in the sell pile it some how made it back to the keep pile.. I got to thinking about the knives I have bought in the past few yrs and thought maybe it was time to cut way back or quit this yr..
So today the wife calls from work (Bayer Co.. yep the aspirin people) that they are closing the Pittsburgh operations and eliminating over 600 jobs from now to 2yrs from now.. She has great benefits and health insurance.. Great job that allowed me to retire too.. So this sealed the not buying this yr deal for a while.. ::uc::
So my thoughts in December must have been an Oman.. Now.. If I could only pic those lotto numbers.. ::pray:: Funny how thing go.. ::dang::
John :)

Job wise there is certainly nothing certain in this old world jmh, but still worrisome when the job plays out. Trust she will find something else if she is still looking. Also glad you have a few you've accumulated to look and enjoy. Keep us informed.

Thank You Floyd. ::handshake:: . I am thinking the job search will commence right quick here.. The sad thing is that she had tried to get a job there for the past 15-20yrs and landed it 5yrs ago.. If she coulda hung on for another 5yrs she/we woulda been set.. I know things will work out for the better.. ::nod::
Thank You Rick.. ::handshake::

Man John! I sure hate to hear that. Prayers that the right doors are opened for you all.

Very sorry to hear that news John. It frustrates me to hear of bad things happening to good people. I sure hope that, like you said, things will work out. I will most certainly keep you and your family in my prayers as I send them all Skyward.

Having never lost a job, I fear I cannot feel what you are feeling.

I can, however, pray for you and your wife and family.

Hope everything works out smoothly for you John. No industry is stable these days, especially pharma
and health care. I have been in health care for more than 40 years now. My dad said when he knew
I was going into health care you would always have a job because people will always get sick.

He was right- people will always get sick. But he was wrong about job stability. More unstable
as the years progress.

I will pray for you and your family. Praying good things come your way! I have lost a job or two in my life and it seems bad but then things worked out better for me. I only say this because it can happen for you and your family as well and I will pray it does.

Your wife has one major thing going for her that a lot of people don’t. She has workplace experience.
Given the choice between the kid just out of school, the person who is just reentering the workforce or a woman with a recent, good, work history, who do you think has the best chance?
Hang in there. This will be temporary. Just make sure she gets a good reference.

I am sure things will turn around for you guys! I'll say a prayer for you and your wife, but I feel this will just be a temporary bump in the road for you.
