Case Fraud Accusation

Post by herbva »

Greetings everyone. After reading and occasionally sharing on this forum with great interest, I have now been accused of selling a Case fake. I have a well worn Case 62048 currently for sale on the bay along with a few other knives. (It does have a well worn, faint pattern stamp on the tang, but the "6204" is clearly visible and I can see the remains of the "8" with a magnifier. ) This morning I received a bizarre email from a self-proclaimed Case expert that the 62048 was never made by Case, and, according to his communication with "wr case and sons" I was trying to sell a fake. He further explained that I was being trashed on "the forums" and needed to watch out. After a few back and forth emails and sending him additional pictures (with great difficulty I kept my cool and remained polite) I received the following message:
"eBay
New message from: casedot_82 (2)
Haha....psssst, you know anyone that wants a vintage case xx? I’ve got dozens of fakes I’ve had buried out back. No buddy I doubt a knife would be fake like you say but not having the exact tang Stamp can mean the difference of hundreds. A popular thing going now is that everyone now identifies any stag or bone knife as “redbone” or “pakkawood” and who can say different? Anyways watch out for benchmade/micro tech knives because China is selling replicas and unfortunately eBay is flooded with them."

I am well acquainted with the nonsense that one can encounter with ebay transactions, but this astounds me. I may be reading this wrong, but I think he is actually looking for a partner for his nefarious activities.

Post a link to your auction here. The experts here will tell you if your knife is valid, or has problems. ::tu::

There are dozens of 62048 knives currently listed on eBay. I wonder if all of the sellers have been made aware? :)

Once you start selling knives on ebay you'll be made keenly aware of how many knife experts there are. Strange none of these experts have ever written books, as they have so much knowledge.

I’m somewhat confused with the post. Not really sure what your trying to say or maybe prove. I was thinking if you had a concern about the authenticity of the knife, putting on here with a few pictures would be a great opportunity to have some very educated eyes take a look at it. I’m sure you would a honest report on the knife (jmo and every has one).
Honey do you have your pocket knife ? Do I have my pants on?

Here's a link to my auction for the 62048: https://www.ebay.com/itm/132913570078

I think anyone bothering to expand the 4th picture can see the "6204" of the"62048", and I can see the remains of the"8" with a magnifier, but just barely. Here is the first email I received from mister expert:

"Didn’t make that knife according to wr case and sons. Could u please send a pic that clearly shows the knifes authenticity? Looks like a 61048 blade on that 62048. I’ll do some research and figure it out but your being mentioned in forums as “slick”. I’d hate my name to be slandered"

I just gets more insane after that. I have since blocked him. End of story.

I am no expert, but the knife looks good to me.

Perhaps, instead of saying the "8" on the tang stamp "is completely gone" it should state
it is readable in the right light with a magnifier. JMHO. I have an old Case knife that
has it's last number just visible in the right light with a magnifier so I know it is possible.

Also. The internet has no faces.
