Thanks for the compliments.

"Very nice example Roland. Is that an interior piece?
-Paul T."
I assume so. It is mammoth tusk that did not get stained by minerals in soil. For some tusks this could be close to the surface. I don't see the division into: interior or exterior to be useful. It is a division created by someone in marketing. These terms were not in use until recently. I see a division based more on: stained or scarred, vs. no stains or marks. The stained/scarred of course came from the exterior surface but not all exterior surface is stained/scarred.

Interior, Exterior, Stained, Non-Stained...call it what you will, whatever works for you. As far as I'm concerned, it's all gorgeous.

Here's the twin to Mark's 1997 3 1/8" Schatt & Morgan Wharncliffe Whittler with Interior Mammoth Ivory handle. (See: Who's Into S&M?) Yup, I, too, fell for the old "Interior Mammoth Ivory" ploy cooked up by that clever person in marketing...again! ::dang::

Here is a Yellowhorse knife by Queen that I put mammoth scales on. The knife had no scales when I bought it.

Beautiful knives are being posted showing a wide variety what is available in mammoth ranging from simply elegant, to rustic and textured, to vibrant colors. Some of this is new to me.

Here is a Northwoods Bear Lake in mammoth.

Re: Wayne's Mammoth Swing Guard: "You may have to go to work for a knife factory"
I say not factory but do custom re-handling in your own shop so that others might also benefit from your obvious skill.
It looks like GEC might not be using mammoth any longer. I do not know if any USA knife manufacturers will be using mammoth. Hence those of us who love mammoth will need to prevail upon Wayne or others to re-handle our knife with mammoth.

Here is a GEC Northwoods "El Presidente" or the Presidential, big knife, 2 blades and ONE spring. I like single spring knives. This one is o.k.

Greg, those are 2 of the best Northwoods patterns. I don't know how you keep scoring mammoths. Maybe you found a secret hunting spot !

Roland those two are from a few months ago.

As being shown here, mammoth ivory sure makes a beautiful handle material with a lot of different looks.
