Is This A True Camillus 72?

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Is This A True Camillus 72?

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

Is this a true Camillus 72? I am NOT an expert by any means, but I know a little more than I did 4 months ago (when I joined AAPK). Sorry about the quality of the pictures. Note the blade arrangement. If you can't tell, it is a short line tang stamp. Was this made this way or was it taken apart at some point and put back together this way? ::shrug:: (P.S. Not my knife, yet)

It looks like a bone handle first generation 72 circa 1946-47. It has the proper blade configuration with the coping blade at one end and the pen and master at the other end. I can't tell from the pictures if both sides of the master are Sabre ground but they should be if it is authentic.

Was it ONLY the 1st generation 72s that had the coping blade at one end and the pen blade with the main blade at the opposite end? All my 72s, NO 1st generations, have the coping blade paired up with the main blade and the pen blade, by its lonesome, on the other end.

Here's what one looks like. On later knives the blade configuration was changed to the Master and coping blade on one end and a small clip at the other end.

I said Good Luck but that price goes far past luck. You wear a mask in real life as that is a steal. Congrats and I'm jealous. ::nod:: ::nod::
