"Scout Knife" Project

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Well, I started this thread almost 2 years ago. Yesterday I was cleaning the garage , again, and found a block of Black Locust firewood I had set aside for the scales on the Scout Knife. Pulled the table saw out and ripped down a nice bright yellow set of scales. I plan on trying to checker them. I have a friend that builds custom gun stocks that said he will lend me the tools. But, he's a little concerned that Black Locust might not be the best material to learn how to checker on. Hopefully it won't take 2 more years to finish. I'll get the pics of the scales up after I get a couple cups of coffee in me.
