Notice that cars did not dominate. People walked on the streets. No need for sidewalks. Bicycles, street cars & horse drawn buggies are 'the traffic'.
Far more interesting and real than whizzing by inside a car.
This video shows us what we lost when automobiles took over, the "Invasion of the Steel Monsters" proclaiming "The streets belong to us. Get out of here".
