So I noticed a little Issue with my knife roll sometime back. It got wet. I have always maintained a Tool Ethos about things, Knives. .. I don’t own many Mint knives given my taste runs towards Schrade Cut Co 3-4” pocket knives. They can be expensive , and hard to find.
Still looking for a 8813

I've heard of people who put their knives in the single-knife Sack-Ups pouches and then seal them in bags with a food vacuum-sealer. Maybe they're not that nuts. Anything can happen; even when you've taken what you view as proper protection against rust. Which for me is stored in Sack-Ups rolls, in a cabinet with camphor blocks as well (need to replace those with those humidity absorbers--camphor stinks!).

Storing your knives vacuum sealed might not be a bad idea.
I think I would get some of those small desiccant packages like Kershaw uses. When you purchase a new Kershaw the knife is inside a plastic bag, inside the box. If the knife has a pocket clip then there is a small desiccant packet held in by the pocket clip. I think those would be outstanding to prevent rust in older knives.

Being older with a few health problems I take fair number of prescriptions and dietary supplements. I get a lot of little desiccant packs from vitamins, supplements and even some of my prescriptions especially if I receive more than a 30 day supply in one bottle.

I often use those with some of my own knives that I want to keep good and dry though usually I use them in a Ziploc bag not a vacuum sealed bag. I think the vacuum sealed bags would work even better!

One word of caution having to do with the of sealing celluloid knives – while the sealed bag would prevent contamination of other knives, it would almost guarantee the destruction of the knife sealed inside the bag should it start to off gas. There would be no way for the acidic gases to escape. The effect would be to hold the gases on the knife and accelerate the destructive process. But for non-celluloid knives I think sealing them up would be outstanding for long-term storage!

check for any cell handled knives in the pouch along with the damaged knife. Separate the cells from the rest as the outgas from them can erode the metal.

Sorry for your loss..... I hate the rust demon got to your knife.

All the above are great long term storage ideas. If I have one that I intend to store for investment purposes I rub it down with RIG (Rust Inhibitive Grease). I don't know how others feel about that but this same method is how I store all my guns. RIG sets up a barrier from water and in the case of guns, FINGERPRINTS.
Just my $.02 and I hope it helps some.

Me, I play with my knives all the time and some of mine even start out life at my house looking much worse that yours does right now. I hope you knife cleans up and you can find a better storage method that fits your needs,

I can understand wanting to cry when you saw that knife! Only thing to do now is to polish off the rust and make a very nice EDC. Honestly, that knife is in better shape than most of my Schrades!
