Case Tested XX 6345 (Cattle) Questions

Post by herbva »

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with this knife, but I would appreciate hearing from some of our knowledgeable resident experts before I get too excited and bid on this one. First, with composite scales, isn't this a 2345? Second, from the pictures I've looked, at all the composite ones are smooth composite, not jigged and they all have a shield, so maybe the shield is just missing on this one. Finally, I looked at the few Case Tested XX knives I have in my collection and none of the tang stamp letters are as thick or "fat" as they are on this one. Also, from the pictures it looks like the scales are quite worn down (almost to the liner in some places) and maybe have shrunk a tiny bit on the ends. Thanks guys! :D

The 6 can be for bone, synthetic, or laminate.
The 2 is for black synthetic thermoplastic rubber.
Not having it hand, and being far from an expert, I don't know what that material is.
Take care and God bless,

I have a Tested 6345 with similar handle material and I call it "Imitation Jigged Bone" because that's what it said in the listing. I bought it from Steve (knifeaholic) so I have no reason to think it's called anything else.

The posted knife is fine. Case made those "plain Jane" 6345 patterns (I believe ) for the US military in WWII. There were a couple of variations of the jigged black composition handle material. Oddly, they never used the usual "Gumfuddy" rough black on these 6345's that were made for the military.

One more thing I will add, I had to do a "Hot Pin" Test MYSELF because the Handles looked so REAL. They are Jigged Plastic for SURE!!
