Y'all got any Schrade - Walden Uncle Henrys??

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Y'all got any Schrade - Walden Uncle Henrys??

Post by Meridian_Mike »

I just found my first Uncle Henry with the Schrade - Walden tang stamp....
It needs some clean-up BUT.... I think this is among some of the first Uncle Henrys. (Am I right??) I think this one hit the catalogs in about 1968.
I have searched through a lot of ebay auctions and even completed auctions BUT I can't seem to find any more Schrade - Walden tang stamped knives.
Among the first ones shown in the catalogs, there was the 127, 285 and the 897....
Here is a shot of my (soon to be in my hands) Uncle Henry 127...
127 Walden 1.jpg
127 Walden 2.jpg
The blade is full and the bolsters have that rust but all-in-all it looks like a nice one.

Y'all got any Schrade - Walden Uncle Henrys?

Let's see 'em.

Check out the serial number inside one of the liners, when it arrives. I might have an UH or two. :D

I bought this 127UH back in 2009, serial number 00456  Possibly first day manufacture? The early ones had tapered sheaths. Watch for that. This very early one has another distinctive feature, abnormally thick Delrin covers, which was quickly changed. I feel very lucky to have this one.

Here is another example of how the Delrin covers on the folding hunters changed from thick to thin. These are the fake 'scrims,' some of which are very nice, of course.

Those are some really nice knives guys!

I went on a hunt for Walden Uncle Henrys yesterday and I found one more on the bay.
This one is an 897....
Looks unused.

I notice that on the scrims with the fat covers, they have the SN stamped on the bolster....
Interesting!

BTW.... I LIKE the thick covers!!
