Knife Cabinet - Schrade Treasures

I was so impressed with Tom Chase's knife display, that i thought i would show mine off. My collection is diminutive compared to Tom's.
My Schrade Collection started some 7 years ago, and over that period i had collected quite a substantial amount of wonderful Schrade knives, plus a few others, to balance up the collection.
As you can see from the pics, i made myself a knife cabinet so that i can see what i have. All my good knives were in nice boxes on a shelf, and to admire what i had, it meant physically opening a box, have a look, then put it away again. I saw Aussie Boson's collection in a similar cabinet, and that inspired me to make my own. I didn't want doors on the front, as they inhibit the view, so i used a large sheet of Plexiglass, with locks on each end. That did the trick.
This doesn't cover my whole collection, but it is a good appreciation of my better, and rarer ones...mainly fixed blades.
I hope you enjoy looking at these as much as i do, every day.

Wow...That is impressive Tony. I love the way you have incorporated the different Items in among the knives such as the Tractor and the vans and such. It seems you have the touch for building the displays up so that they are all encompassing. Kind of makes my displays look boring...lol

I noticed you have a Ducks Unlimited panel van in there....I have never seen one of these and now must start the hunt...I have to have one..LOL
Can you give me the particulars on that so I can launch my hunt please?

Again, Very Impressive....do you hire out for decorating Knife Rooms?

WOW ! Not only a very fine cabinet but also a great many very fine knives. How many knives are in this cabinet ? my guess is about 350.
I would like to know: depth of the shelves (front to back) and the type of lighting that you used.
Are you a cabinet maker by trade ?

Wow!!! Tony that is very impressive. A well rounded collection. There's not only knives, but other things that go with it. Man that is a super display, very nicely done. Exceptionally clean and top notch.

Ever since Tony posted this picture, my head has been spinning! I really need to get some work done in my Schrade room and set up knives more like this. Since viewing The display Tony posted, I have been in my room and trying to figure out how to make my displays look less boring.

Tony has reminded me, with his display, that I need professional help,,,not with myself...lol but with actually setting my stuff up in the Schrade Room

Many thanks to everyone for their kind words. I have been working on the display for a long time, have it the way i like it, and now i am moving to the coast, north of Sydney. It is quite a daunting task, but i am sure i can emulate it again at the new place.

Tom: The Ducks Unlimited van is a General Motors 1946 Suburban. It measures 7 1/2", and is made by Ertl Collectables. It is a money box car.
As for my collection, it is dwarfed by your "Schrade Room". Those pics you showed us, were something else.
Don't beat yourself up about your collection mate. You have the stock to do anything you want.

Kootanay Joe: You were a bit high with your estimation. At a rough count i make it 160. The dimensions of the viewing area are, 4' wide x 4' high x 1' 6" deep. As for being a cabinet maker, no, just a handyman.
The lighting came from England http://www.dabhees.co.uk. There are 4 strips that can be joined or used singularly. There are four different colours as well as a strobe setting. They look quite spectacular when they are all flashing together. You will need to buy a voltage regulator to reduce the power.

Tongueriver: Yes, there are some exceptionally nice knives amongst that lot. It was a matter of being at the right place at the right time. The ones that particularly interest me are the Craftsman, the 14k Gold "Fortune" knife from 1948, the 75th Anniversary $1,000 knife and the sprinkling of super knives customised by Herman Williams, and a few exceptionally nice ones re-handles and customised by Dale Vincent.
It has been an absolute pleasure showing you guys some of my better knives, knowing that you all have exceptional collections yourselves.

This deserves a bump. Incredible display of fine knives! That cabinet is full of the "must have", "most desirable" Schrade models to be sure. All the Herman Williams customs are nicely embellished additions.

I immediately noticed the Grohmann/D.H. Russell Belt Knife corner. That's some Canadian knife history right there beside all the USA Schrade.

I'm Canadian and have owned and used a number of Grohmanns over the years.

What sparked your interest in the Grohmann knives, Schradenut? Are they popular in Australia?
