Does This 6380 Look Suspicious to Anyone Else?

Post by herbva »

I would love to buy a "New" (as described in the auction) 1976 6380 for this price, but I have concerns about the shield on this one. The word "Case" looks crooked to me (3rd pic), perhaps overstamped, and what happened to the oval indent around the word "Case"? Please let me know what you think, including if I'm being overly picky. Thanks. ::teary_eyes::

Isn't that the Delrin shield w/o the circle. Not all that good of a price for Delrin handles - maybe.

Compare the shield to this one.

Yes ,that's the delrin shield indicating delrin handles. That's why it's so cheap. It would make a great user but most people who buy one for their collection prefer bone handles.

Price & Zalesky's 15th Edition has a 1970-1977 Delrin 6380 valued at $90 mint, something to consider.

Here are pictures of the shield from the above link (first 2 pictures) and the knife and the shield in question (last 2 pictures).

Thanks for the good info. Seller definitely "misdescribed" it as "New". I'm going to pass.

I disagree Herb. The knife definitely looks unused. That's not a bad price for a delrin handled 6380 in mint condition. The bone handle version sells for about $150.

I agree with "gsmith7158". Having read the title and details along with review of the photos, I believe the seller has provided an honest description. Not sure why you would state "misdescribed" it as "New".

I know absolutely nothing about Case knives but the front bolster in picture number 3 looks to be heavily scratched. If you look at the enlarged picture on E-bay, it’s very apparent.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess if you put anything under a microscope you will see some scratches or unusual marks. In expanded view, I also noticed the scratched bolsters, and some questionable marks on the shield. Perhaps I am just looking too closely! The seller just made me a very tempting offer ($90) and I am definitely tempted, but I'm just not a great fan of delrin and have been gradually shifting my collection to all bone and horn handled (and rehandled) knives. Decisions, decisions, decisions............... ::teary_eyes::
