Hammer brand not hammer brand

Looks like a blade out of a shell handle imperial hammer brand was put in the frame of a NYKC hammer brand.

I agree 100% , master is definitely a replacement .
The bs4 junior size did have a clip blade version but it only came with a short nail nick .
I’ll have to dig out mine to show what it’s supposed to look like .
Junior knife all the way to the right , only picture I have on file .

Roland that was actually patented by NY Knife Co.. Cammilus got the use of it through Imperial's acquisition of NYK's intellectual property after they went bankrupt around 1933.

I'm not sure that an Imperial Hammer Brand blade will fit in an NYK Hammer Brand frame. I believe the blade of an Imperial HB scout/camp knife is considerably thinner than the blade in the NYK Hammer Brand scout/camper.

I suppose it is possible someone could make a thinner back spring for the NYK knife, but it would probably necessitate finding a thinner, older style can opener. That might be a problem...

I have seen cobbled NYK/Hammer Brand knives like this before. The long pull clip blade from the crimped-bolster Hammer Brand knife most likely came from a jack pattern, not from an Imperial HB scout pattern.

Dale, take a look at this picture. It looks like there is a gap where the blade should touch the liners because it's a thinner imperial blade. I would bet that blade has some wobble. It also seems a hair long and is almost touching the liner.

This picture is not good, but for reference this is likely the same type of blade they put in the NYK. This is a
3 5/8'' cattle and there were also two blade jacks on the same frame with the same main blade. Both are commonly available. The NYK in question has an older imperial hammer blade as it doesn't say usa.

I think you're right Paul, that picture is not very good and it does appear that there may be a small gap between tang of the blade and the side liner.

There are a couple of other things that raise questions in my mind, usually, a Hammer Brand blade will have New York Knife Walden on the pile side tang. Although I do believe I have seen legitament Hammer Brand knives that did not have the pile side tang stamp.

The other question in my mind is about the Hammer Brand tang stamp itself on the knife in question.
All of the known Imperial Hammer Brand tang stamps I have seen had the USA on them somewhere, generally vertically. I have seen several charts of Imperial HB tang stamps and all have the USA.

I think it's very difficult to tell definitively from the picture one way or the other. I think a person would have to have the knife in their hand to be positive. I certainly wouldn't by the knife without examining it.

The earlier shell hammers didn't have a usa. I don't know when they started putting usa on them but it may have been after the war.
