Camillus 69 Resto/Mod

This is a Camillus pattern 69 that I acquired as part of a trade with Mr. Orvet. The first 2 pictures are the knife as received. I think the 2 large holes in the the mark side liner in second picture may be from the way Camillus attached delrin scales that is called "post assembly", but I'm not sure. But if that is correct, I wonder why they are only on one side? I used Culpepper's "bourbon" smooth bone. I didn't notice the crack on the front scale until I was doing the finish sanding and everything was already assembled. So, lets just call it a "character" crack. It's not on a pin, and I didn't drop it, so maybe the cow had a fractured leg? This is my first Cammy 69 and I really like it. Nice, solid largeish stockman and the the blades quickly took a razor sharp edge and have nice snap. Perfect EDC for me! Dale, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the other one, but I'm thinking about modifying it into a 2-blade jack since the opener is broken and I find screwdriver blades to be useless. That's a vast improvement on that knife Herb, even with the crack in the handle.
I have occasionally found imperfections in some of Culpepper's bone handles, especially the ones they have on sale.
It looks tight but if you have any doubts used in CA on it to get down inside in stabilize the crack.

Nice! As you said, the crack gives the bone some character, and IMO doesn't take away from the knife at all. Put her in your pocket!

It sure is a satisfying feeling to bring one back for the edge of the trash can! And you did a great job on that one!

I have noticed that the bone that Culpepper's puts on sale DOES sometimes have flaws. I think that is what happened to the TL-29 mod I did with the Culpepper green bone. I was extra careful not to over peen the rocker pin but got a crack anyway. AND... that crack went through the short distance to the edge from the pin AND took off and went the LONG way up to the blade well.

STILL.... I agree with everyone else. The crack is just character.... add a little ZAP and carry on!

If you use "Zap-a-Gap", make sure it's the Pink one. It's really thin and you can hardly notice it, if at all.
